Ugh…I really want to like this, it’s the kind of hip hop album I’m craving, but I just can’t handle this dudes voice for 4-5 tracks in a row less yet an entire album. Even the album cover art is super cool! Secret Knock is a really cool cut and I’ll miss that in a playlist or two! Some good stuff here musically, but that annoying voice…..
I haven’t listened to these guys since their 2009 debut album, To Lose My Life. They were a lot darker back then. This album is ok, but man, Juice is a real banger! The opening and closing two songs are my other favs. Going Nowhere is pretty good too.
My first experience with Coingamer. Tracks 2,4,8 and 10 are dynamic, interesting and somewhat therapeutic listens. Fun tracks to add to any electronic playlist. Perfect for the office. There is a solid EP’s worth of material here but I was less excited about the rest. Will check out other Coingamer albums in future.
Call on me is one awesome groovy soul tune, wish more of the album was more in that realm. Root of all Evil and Who Knows are pretty solid too. The rest, minus Have a Baby With Me, is lacking something.
I’m angry, maybe I’ll package it up on an LP and hope to win an award! Sigh…
Have to agree with the majority, this is hot garbage. Bad vocals, the long intros become increasingly annoying, artificial sounding beats, it just doesn’t work. On top of all that they just keep building you up to wanting something that rocks but it never gets there. I read another review where someone gave this a zero and I thought ok, it cant be that bad! But now i get it. While i can’t rate it that low, it did kind of piss me off lol.
Half way through first listen of leadoff track Brave I’m thinking woah, I’m excited, this is phenomenal! That song is a masterpiece. I had never heard of Joy Crookes, but it’s a name I will remember. I only saved a few songs from this album, Brave, I know You’d Kill, and Mother. That is why I didn’t rate higher, but when Joy hits she hits with such a powerful grace and a little groove. The kind of soul that I really like! Will have to go check out her debut ... read more
Soul music from the windy city, it’s the debut album from Hollyy! They have put out singles and EP’s for the past several years and finally put it all together. Wow! What an album, solid from start to finish. That classic soul sound, smooth instrumentation, groovy and chill all at the same time. A new favorite to start my morning with over a hot cup of tea. Yes tea, the diet precludes me from drinking coffee!
You can always count on The Bug Club to bring out the lighter fun side of indie rock. Some great tracks here, like Full Grown Man, How to be a Confidante, Living in the Future and Tales of a Visionary Man. The album closes with the best of them all, Appropriate Emotions. Loved that one, don’t miss it! Overall, not quite as good as their last album, On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System, but it surely did not disappoint. It just got off to a bit of a rough start after the ... read more
There is one really good song here, Love is. Just save that one and move along.
It’s almost like psychedelic reggae. Nothing close to classic reggae, but a new modern version. The album is mostly instrumental and a good listen. I do wish they would make more songs with lyrics because the one main song here with lyrics, Welcome to My World, is incredible. That is one song from this project that will hit playlists of mine.
My biggest critique is too short. It’s more of an EP, since two of the songs are not even complete songs, just filler, which leaves 6 songs and 22 minutes. It’s too bad, because this gets off to a strong start with 3 great indie pop tunes. Since You, Call Me and Waiting for Love are all really solid and catchy. The rest is decent, but not near the level of those 3. Would rate higher but can’t justify for 3 songs.
Just listen to Infinity Leaf Clover, cool tune! The rest is ok, kind of blah indie folk. Not much rock going on here! Hot Water Song and Battery Lifer are both pretty decent as well. I saved those three and will never listen to the rest again.
At least now we know Snoop Dogg and Zac Brown don’t mix! I mean, I was never wondering, but at least I can say I learned something from investing nearly 50 minutes, shhh, I’ll admit I may have dropped a couple tracks early. I don’t mind the leadoff track and The Sum is a pretty, heartfelt tune, other than those two, hard pass on this one.
If more of the songs could command attention like Total Euphoria and Tell Me I Never Knew That this would be an amazing album. Those two tracks are crazy good! Unfortunately the rest doesn’t come close to providing complete song experiences worthy of a re-listen.
Instant classic. Yes they’re missing Trugoy, but they finally found the magic again that made their debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, an all-time classic hip hop album. Cabin in the Sky instantly becomes their second best album and I sincerely wish more of today’s rappers would take a page out of the old school hip hop scene. Cleaner lyrics, great sampling, etc.
Some cool elements here. It kind of all comes together on Nights in Armor and Blood on the Dollar, the two best songs on the album. The rest just doesn’t get there for me, but maybe a band to keep an eye on?
Maybe stick with tap water bruh and definitely lay off the caffeine!
Middle of the road psychedelic indie rock trying too hard to sound nostalgic and old. Just sounds a bit dull and muffled. Cool concept though.
