If only the rest if the album could be more like the first two songs!!! Definitely getting some David Byrne vibes! Track 5 Shake me awake is pretty solid too. The rest of the album is just not on the same level. I had never listened to Luke before. Deep catalog, plan go go hunting for a few other hidden gems. It’s kinda how he rolls I hear.
Debut album out of Melbourne Australia from Nkechi Anele Nic Ryan-Glenie. The two played together in a different band, Saskwatch, over 4 albums, which concluded in 2019. Owelu Dreamhouse, recorded with a 10-piece ensemble, is an eclectic combination of afrobeat, cinematic soul, funk and Jazz. Anele provides smooth soul vocals and explores her Nigerian heritage. The bands namesake is a play on her grandmother’s village, Owaelu, in Nigeria.
The best track on the album is Tourist, a ... read more
First experience with Jordan Ward, solid album. Backward is supposed to be a more chill version of his previous effort, Forward, which I have not experienced at time of this review. Genius! Ok, I can follow that! Love how Stranger kicks things off in that regard with a real slow soulful groove. High Functioning is a fun track. He’s giving me some Dominic Fike kinda vibes on that one. Now I got the munchies. Juicy and Themselves take things up another level and are probably the two ... read more
Hip/hop dream rap that at times drifts to spoken word. Check it out if that’s your thing. I was very intrigued a minute into the leadoff track, but it’s like the intro that leaves you wanting more, building to something you think could be great, but then it just never gets there. Like being stuck driving 35 in a 65mph zone.
He should probably stick to making more upbeat dance/pop tracks. This album leans more ambient in nature. It’s not bad, but nothing really stands out. There’s just too many people that do it better.
After the first two songs I was like damn, why all the haters? Ok, because it sounds like The Sleazy Wankers dropped the rest of the album!
Just kind of an average mellow Americana/Folk type album. When the Lavender Blooms and Shake Off the Rain are the worthwhile highlights. Can’t believe how much they sound like Blind Pilot on Strongly in Your Arms. That song and Stormwall are decent as well.
Touch My Clogs is a gem and has everything this album is trying to be. It’s groovy, funny and get’s you moving. I like the concept, but the rest of the album kind of comes off like a stale fart in church. Neutral rating for concept and fun song about clogs!
I had never been exposed to Oxis 1-7 prior to listening to Oxis 8. There are definitely a few gems here and cause to go hunting for more on the previous albums. This is some really cool boutique sounding indie electronic. Fry is an amazing song! The other two standouts are leadoff track Dogfish and Onco. The rest is pretty good but sounds more like fill-in material, still good background music.
Is this a joke? WOTY maybe? Handful of other high ratings friends and family? About as good of a listen as fingernails on a chalkboard! A trip to the dentist sounds more pleasing than attempting to listen to this again.
Angel’s Share is a really good song. Happy Place is just a re-do of Saint Phnx and basically sounds the same. Not much else here to get excited about.
The ants aren’t the only ones on drugs and clearly they are some pretty potent ones!
This album really doesn’t deserve all the hate that it gets. I suspect it comes from metal heads lacking diversity? Whatever the case, yes TDWP dipped into Emo/pop on this album and clearly many don’t like it. That doesn’t mean it’s bad. I never listened to these guys before and Its a pretty solid effort. A lot of metal bands try this kind of thing and can’t pull it off. Tracks 2-4 here are really good. Check them out! Sure the back half of the album kind ... read more
Four if the first five songs were really fun and had me rockin’ in a classic AC/DC kind of way. Then it turned into a flaming bag of dog doo! Everyday is a Saturday Night is easily the best song.
Sure it’s not as good as De La Soul’s comeback album or even Public Enemy’s, but it’s not bad. The Cypress Hill co-lab is pretty sweet! Public Enemy and Snoop bring How Long and Like That to life. Maybe the surprise of the album is Back To The Party with Salt-N-Pepa. Fire up a blunt and chill out already!
This needs to be a must listen! Unfortunately with coming out mid-December it will get lost in the shuffle. It’s Seven Lions sophomore album and best to date. One of the better electronic albums i’ve heard in past couple years. It’s so dynamic and flows through so many different sub-genre’s. The vocals are amazing. Nice work! Opening title takes you on an epic event itself. So haunting and cool in first half, turns into a kind of a head banger in the middle and ... read more
After being kind of blown away listening to the first two songs, I was left disappointed with everything after. Great concept with the full orchestra, my complaint is you barely hear it after the first two songs, which literally sound like an awesome production of the band with the full orchestra. Such a fun listen. The rest of the album the orchestra is more faint and distant in background. On top of that, the later songs just seemed dull in comparison.
Vocals sound like a poor man’s Ben Folds. But way more pitchy and irritating. I can’t handle his voice. Too bad because musically the album sounded ok.
The house grooves on Ladida are awesome. Rochelle really knocks it out of the park on that song! Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn’t come close to that vibe, maybe it’s not intended to. It’s just got that feeling where you hear this new song at a lounge or club and you’re like, “DAMN”! What was that? Break out Shazaam. TTW was one other track that I saved, it comes kinda close to that vibe. IDK, the rest just didn’t get me bopping.
And here I thought great grandpa was reserved to telling stories about his chihuahua fought off a black bear. Who knew this Great Grandpa could pump out indie dream pop with the best of them! Unfortunately, you don’t hear that on this album until Ladybug, song five. That is a really cool catchy little tune! The next track too, Kiss the Dice, but it’s too short, I want more! The next song Doom takes you on a hot mess of destruction and then the magic comes back on Task. And ... read more
