Cool trance vibes, nice listen. The Liquid Room will make a playlist or two of mine.
Not good. First words that came to mind at track 4 were crap disco. What a disappointment, feels like they really mailed it in. Hula Girl is ok, but the rest? No thanks.
Kinda like a poor man’s beauty pageant version of The Black Keys. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t really work either.
I wanted to like it more as I was always a fan of It’s A Shame About Ray and Come On Feel the Lemonheads from the early 90’s. Gets off to classic sounding start with 58 Second Song and Wild Song is solid, then kind of flames out from there.
As the album art states, “This is the debut album” by swim school and its a really good one! It’s that prototypical shoegaze indie rock sound, but they do it really well. Favorite tracks Heaven and Am I Good Enough Now. Love it when an album starts and ends equally strong. Other notables are Green Eyes, Say It All and On and On.
Rolling Stone lists this as #1 album all-time at the time as of this writing. Love the genre, nice messages on album, but there are only really two standout tracks. What’s Going On and Mercy Mercy Me are both timeless classics, but other than those two, there’s not much to get excited about other than the rest are decent listens. What’s Happening Brother is the next best.
Being on most critic all time best albums lists, I had to check this one out. One of the most critically acclaimed art pop albums of all time. Running Up That Hill was a smash hit and I really do love that song. Other than that, there are really only two other songs that I can really get into. Cloudbursting and Jig Of Life. The latter being so cool with all the traditional Irish instruments! Overall, good album, just not really my cup of tea.
Very solid debut album. A band to keep an eye on for sure! Seems like they are still trying to figure out their sound a bit on this album and that’s ok! So long as it works I prefer that over an album where every song sounds the same. The leadoff track and last track are the two best songs here. Thread sounds a bit more on folk rock side where Feel It All Again almost sounds more country. The middle of the album sounds more alternative rock. Mamacita is a great rock jam. They ... read more
Highly underrated U2 album, #4 for me out of their entire catalog behind War, Joshua Tree and Zooropa. Bad is one of my favorite all time U2 tracks. A little hidden deep cut gem at the end of this one is MLK. Just a beautiful soothing track. I have even used it as a meditation device. A sort of Homecoming, leadoff track, is outstanding. Wire is another more hidden gem in their catalog. That’s the thing, this album doesn’t get the press, but it’s a wonderful listen start ... read more
What do you get if Ed Sheeran and Sam Fender had a baby? If you said Ruel, you’re a winner! It’s a pretty solid pop album start to finish. Leadoff track Only Ever is my fav. Other notables are Wild Guess, I Can Die Now, Destroyer and No News is Good News. Most of the songs have a nice fairly chill groove to them. Not slow chill or hype pop, just flow state in-between. Nice listen.
I’m not normally one to like any of Tyler’s songs, so to find two on one album was a nice surprise. My favorite, Ring Ring Ring, just has a nice groove to it. The other, Sugar On My Tongue, I thought for sure was in some way a remake of the Talking Heads 1977 recording, which was not officially released until 1992. Ai tells me its not, but I’m not buying that it didn’t at least have some kind of influence.
Dig the overall vibe but I can’t tolerate the vocals. I think the bug is on a drugged up bender!
Two of the best songs on this album are covers, that tells you this is not their best work. Where have all the good times gone is really the only noteworthy original, although Happy Trails is a fun little end.
What most people don’t realize is the Violent Femmes actually had more than one really good album. While this follow-up to their self titled debut never received much, if any, critical acclaim, it’s an extremely solid second effort. Gordon Gano’s vocals are on point and probably either love or hate for most, with little in-between. The instrumentation on this album is actually really good with some really cool spots in songs Never Tell, Hallowed Ground and Black Girls. ... read more
Overall decent pop-rock album. There are 4 really good songs. Oh No, Everyone’s talking, Sugar and Different Languages. Looks like it’s labeled as pop-punk. This is about as punk as McDonald’s is fine dining!
Not what I would choose for my last meal. The musicality is there, just not my cup of tea.
Overall it’s decent enough album, though there are really only 4 songs that made the cut for me. In no particular order, Nah, True, Whenever Your Gone, and Rendezvous.
Maria’s vocalist Maria Zardoya going in a dream-pop direction. Overall, the album could not hold my attention. She has a pretty voice, i’m a dream-pop chill kind of fan, but I find most tracks to be a bit flat and not overly interesting. The one exception was Moment! The drumbeat grabbed me right away and it wound up in my new chill playlist.
This acid house masterpiece should really get a lot more credit and attention than it does. 3 AM Eternal was a huge hit back in it’s day, but the whole album is great, stands the test of time and still sounds great today.
One of the major albums that brought alternative mainstream for good.
