What music is all about. Happiness and vibrancy. Just face it, Brasil (with an S) does it better. Thank god I speak portuguese.
I have just now finished the essential miles discography (which accumulates to almost 30 hours of music) and it's always nice to revisit this one. One of my favourite records ever. Miles has a lot of ambitious projects and some just don't resonate with me, something I found even more true during the course of this discography speedrun. In particular the post-bop stuff, which is sometimes hard to sit through for someone who doesn't know a lot about jazz and music theory. But I've also found ... read more
Wonderful western-ish sounding funk from the beautiful Niger margins. If you hear a more alive organ sound than here, we'll give you your money back!
so fucking annoying and messy, sorry but don't collab again PLEASE
Some people have had and are having it very rough in life. Chilling how Woody comes across as humorous in some of these lines. This collection is one of those experiences that transcends music, it's more of an incredible testimony. Very forward-thinking in lyricism but also completely of its time.
I have discovered what detained me from listening to this before: the album cover always mislead me to think this was some lame 70's prog. Boy, was I wrong.
On this LP, The Chameleons camouflage in a dark blue mood to create an instant post-punk classic. If someone asked me to choose, not the best, but the most post-punk record of all time, my answer would be Script of the Bridge. Essential to identify the genre, with its gothic and dreamy twist all the way through.
When the day is done
Down to earth, then, sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done
When the day is done
Hope so much your race will be all run

When the day is done
When the night is cold
Some get by but some get old
Just to show life's not made of gold
When the night is cold
When the bird has flown
Got no one to call your own
Got no place to call your home
When the bird has flown
When the ... read more
The desperate howls of someone's last breaths, trying to leave all his energy left behind, not letting anything go with him. All his energy given to and for us, for us to try and find something bigger, something out of this world. An unbelievable art statement by a man who left his mark on millions of people, including myself. I don't think I will find spiritualism this soul-shattering anywhere else.
what a record man!!!! what a sound!!!! no good words for this review, I'm just speechless.
Lately this album has blown me away. The quirkiness is a trademark TMBG touch, but I think some people underrate them in terms of songwriting. They can carry an average tune to a very coherent track album-wise. I feel like that's the case for the shorter tracks (Cage & Aquarium, You'll Miss Me, Shoehorn With Teeth (which is an hilarious track by the way)). As for the main ones, there's just some incredibly note-worthy ideas, like the absolute genius pop opener Ana Ng (which 1st verse is one ... read more
