James Blake - Trying Times
90

wow wow wow, this was an absolute beauty of a record, James Blake has smashed it!

Kanye West - BULLY
30

nah, this ain't it

BTS - ARIRANG
50

Not really feeling it, tbh. It's produced well but it's just too westernized now - completely deviating from their core audience. There are big names on production throughout this entire record but it just lacks authenticity.

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
90

Wow, this is some of the best songwriting I've seen in a long, long time. FJM doesn't feel like an album, it's more of a mirror to the world - showcasing some of its harshest realities and heavily critical of cynicism, religion, and the future of humankind, and he does all that while being humorous and clever (not to add that he has such a timeless voice too).

I feel like if I start delving into the subject matter of it all, this post will turn into an essay, so that's ... read more

Baby Keem - Ca$ino
80

Super fun record! Baby Keem has been AWOL for a long bit, which seemingly runs in the family lol. After Kendrick had the best run of his career for the past two years, it was about time that Keem showed up, which he did with Ca$ino.

This album was a whole different package from what everyone expected from Keem. It's short, it's concise, it's really fun and diverse with the genres he plays with and the different vocal techniques he picks up. Overall, a really fun listen and great ... read more

Joji - Piss In The Wind
70

I feel like PITW is massively overhated, because everyone either wants another Sanctuary of Glimpse of Us - but Joji has never been that 😭 Go back and listen to Chloe Burbank and In Tongues and you'll understand what kind of music this guy has always made.

As for this record, I personally really like it. It's super atmospheric and completely engulfs you into the soundscape. Joji's vocals are super versatile and the production choices are amazing. I wish there were more ... read more

Olivia Dean - The Art of Loving
80

beautiful album wtf got me feeling butterflies and shi

i only knew of olivia dean's name, probably heard of some songs on social media but never really listened properly but goddamn, her voice is actually unbelievably pretty. it has that vintage classic tone like adele and amy winehouse. she can WRITE write and the instrumentation on this entire record was just downright beautiful.

idk how i missed this last year, but it's never too late :p expect this to be in rotation on aux.

Louis Tomlinson - How Did I Get Here?
65

quite refreshing...but not there

so louis tomlinson has been doing indie rock for a while now and had fully leant into the sound, which worked out pretty well for his pretty loyal fanbase, but when i heard the singles for this record, i knew it was going to delve more into pop - and it might have worked out well. well sort of.

this is a pretty substantial shift in direction of his solo music, rooting in optimism and psychedelic pop instrumentation. his lyricism is good as always, there's ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
70

hmmm, interesting album

i don't know why everyone's hating, this is a perfectly fine trap album lol. some of y'all need to understand that just because bro hasn't released in 8 years doesn't mean he was working on this FOR that time period 😭 rocky got his own life, bro literally bagged Rihanna, y'all got nothing on that.

okay let's talk about the album, i personally liked it. the production is absolutely mental on some of these tracks and rocky says a lot ... read more

The Kid LAROI - BEFORE I FORGET
35

genuinely couldn't be arsed

i read somewhere that laroi scrapped the original album and remade the entire thing in just four months - well yeah, this shit sounds like it. every song is very repetitive, his writing is dull and it just doesn't do it for me. i practically had to force my way through this.

the only positive is his singing has gotten better and there's at least some ounce of emotion behind his voice, but when that is complimented by dogwater lyricism, unfortunately ... read more

Hayley Williams - Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party
75

hayley williams can do pop well!

i started this record off thinking i was gonna get the usual rock hayley but i was surprised it started off with some really nostalgic pop production and kept that tone throughout the tracklist. the first half is absolutely STACKED and the second half falters a bit but picks it up towards the end.

really loved the writing on this, hayley is not afraid of saying things with her chest. the production could have been a little more poppier if she wanted to go down ... read more

Benson Boone - American Heart

this counts as self-h*rm

Racing Mount Pleasant - Racing Mount Pleasant
80

wow this took me to a place i don’t want to be again.

ROSALÍA - LUX
100

absolute insanity from rosalia

fucking hell, where do i even start. this is easily one of the best composed pieces of music that i’ve ever heard. WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE SINGS IN THIRTEEN LANGUAGES. THIRTEEN??? people barely sing alright in a second language and here she is, sounding native in all thirteen.

i can’t even begin to describe the production on this - it’s transcendental. it takes you on a journey through the entire history of music and splashes on this beautiful ... read more

Purity Ring - purity ring
70

this was quite enjoyable

quite a fun listen, it’s very dreamy and sounds almost like a game soundtrack - which to me really took me back to my childhood. although, it wears off quickly on some tracks but slowly and steadily picks it right back up.

this was my first purity ring listen and i’ve been told that it’s quite different from most of their work so i’m eager to check out the rest of their discography.

Anna von Hausswolff - ICONOCLASTS
99

absolutely phenomenal, one of my favourites this year

wow, i actually was not expecting this to turn out this good. i had only checked out the ethel cain feature song and i really liked it + a friend made me listen to the entire record and wow, im so glad i did.

ICONOCLASTS is truly in a lane of its own. it’s not bound by a certain sound or genre - it’s more of an experience. anna von hausswolff takes you through this gothic and dark soundscape which is pierced through by her own ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust
80

this mf can really rap over beans and toast

WHY DID THIS GO SO HARD 😭 with some insanely niche collaborations too - i always wanted to check out this regardless because quadeca was on here. but wow, people weren’t lying when they said this is danny’s BRAT - because this was all over the place in such a good way.

firstly, i was surprised danny is so old, he’s unc status but that does not slow him down from absolutely demolishing every beat on this record and it was ... read more
