wow
i’ve only heard of bon iver on taylor swift’s exile and i really love that song. this record started off quite similar to justin vernon’s earthy sound profile with barebones instrumentation but as soon as disc 2 starts, this went above and beyond. i actually cannot describe how i'm feeling after listening to all of this, it’s just one of those times when you gotta be grateful that music like this exists.
this was all over the place AND I LOVE IT
the last thing i listened to and was similar to this was the last geordie greep album, and just like that - viagr aboys is all over the place with maximalism production and goofy meaningless blabbering on the surface but when you start reading in between the lines, it’s much deeper than it sounds. it’s funky, it’s brash, it’s one hell of an experience.
viagra boys deal with existentialism and anti-intellectualism, tackling some ... read more
minimalism taken too seriously?
don’t get me wrong, this record started off quite fun but i think it was way too stripped back and minimalistic to preserve that kind of dreamy and nostalgic vibe - it was just hard to pay attention to, which is why i’m also glad that this album isn’t very long either. i love her voice, it’s so ethereal and she can definitely write but i think with a bit more experimentation on the instrumentals, this really had much more potential. ... read more
The Life of an Entitled Billionaire
This is such a pathetic showing from none other than Miss MAGA herself, who likes her right wing apologist friends ‘cancelled’ and can’t seem to stop talking about her fiancé’s ‘wood'. This is such a poor show from someone who assembled the pop avengers in Shellback and Max Martin (mind you, these guys are legendary producers) and to come up with something that sounds like AI slop is utterly disgraceful to music. Not ... read more
Muse Discography Review #9
Finally finishing up with Muse’s discography, Will Of The People has to be their least entertaining project so far, but I see the vision - what they wanted to do with it, but the execution lacked and most of it felt pretty lackluster. The songwriting has dialed down to absolute simplicity, the production is not as charged and fun and just the overall flow of this record is confusing - starting off like a typical Muse revolution against an authoritarian state ... read more
What in the Fleetwood Mac is this- and I mean this in the best way possible. Finneas and Ashe take up the challenge of reproducing one of the most difficult dynamics in music - the male and female power duo.
The Dream is fully produced by Finneas who is a master at his craft as we’ve seen on every Billie Eilish record, joining hands with Ashe who has lowkey been a really interesting artist on the rise for a while and duly deserves credit. It’s jazzy, it’s depressing, ... read more
Muse Discography Review #8
Firstly, I want to reiterate that if a band experiments with music outside of their genre, do NOT expect it to be similar to their old stuff. It’s so annoying when these fans want them to stick to a formula which is what causes a band to fall off and become irrelevant. If a rock band is doing synth pop, analyse it and review it from the perspective of a synth pop record. By that perspective, Simulation Theory was a really fun album to listen to.
Sure, it has ... read more
Muse Discography Review #7
Drones, according to Muse, is supposed to be an encompassment of their whole discography on one record, and they kind of achieved that. Again, I don’t realize why this is disliked as much, I found it pretty fun. It’s one of their most cohesive and true-to-theme ones in their massive catalog, albeit sounding a bit like your basic cheesy rock here and there. I still liked it tho, it’s the most accessible album in their discography and it’s just ... read more
Muse Discography Review #6
Okay, I think I am going to nerd out here because I haven’t seen a review that has properly explained what the record is actually about. The 2nd Law is referring to the Second Law of Thermodynamics and how Muse have incorporated this into the theme is capitalism necessitates infinite growth as a means of sustaining itself - except it doesn’t work like that. Energy cannot be created, it can only be converted to and fro in different forms. The global ... read more
Muse Discography Review #5
Okay, by no means is this a bad record, it’s just a step down from their previous work which just kept on improving and improving, but I really appreciate the change in sound. Muse is in their Queen bag with this and it was chaotic, grandiose and all over the place in a good way. I really loved how it was practically entirely based on 1984, Orwell would’ve loved this.
Sonically, it was quite different than any Muse before, it’s much more electronic ... read more
Muse Discography Review #4
IT’S SO GOOD??? I never expected it to get so much better. There’s absolutely zero things I can criticize about this record. It’s the perfect length, the theatrical production is a notch up from Absolution and Matt Bellamy continues to shine on the vocals, even better here. The concept is really well portrayed as well. I’ll probably revisit this very soon.
Oh lord, where do I even begin.
Jack Antonoff is the epitome of soulless cash-grab most bland ass sounding pop music ever and as soon as I see him on the credits, I get incredibly annoyed at the insanely predictable and basic chart-targeted music I’m ever going to hear. At this point, I’m sad for Sabrina who is a really good artist but she’s just been on a decline with these last two records.
PLEASE stop chasing trends and working with basic producers and lean into your ... read more
What a record. This is my first time listening to Laufey (sorry, Bewitched is still in my Listen Later ðŸ˜) but lord, she did not disappoint.
I’m just a casual jazz guy here and there, never really listened to much of it, but the way Laufey infuses jazz with bossa nova and classical and some country too. Her songwriting and storytelling is immaculate. Aaron Dessner is a really good producer on this AND WE HAVE CLAIRO BACKGROUND VOCALS. This album has everything.
Nice album, short and concise like most of Earl’s work. This kind of seems like the emotional inverse of SRS which is good to see, Unc’s all positive and shi now. Not really something I’d bump on the daily but Earl doesn’t really make music for replay value, it’s the poetry underneath that takes the cake.
I’ve been waiting for a full body work from Sombr for a while now, and it kind of falls right where my expectations were. The singles were really good choices and there isn’t really a filler song here, but the overuse of the distorted vocal filter just made it a difficult listen, especially with headphones. He can definitely write lyrics full of substance and the production was punchy in all the right places.
He has a lot more potential, especially knowing that he has a great ... read more
I have no words…
Yeah, that’s it. I’ll write something when I feel like I have words for it.
Album of the year for me, so far
Ethel Cain is just incredible. Although I agree, my first impression of her was Perverts and it didn’t really stick with me but from a music point of view, I kind of got her vision. Someone said she uses her EPs as a testing ground for her albums and that was spot on, because this record does derive some elements from Perverts but this sounds more like a proper cohesive album with a storyline and an amazing concept.
Some of her best production here, the ... read more
This is art. Absolute cinema.
This was one of my most anticipated releases of this year, and it truly lived up to and exceeded the hype. Now, I’m not going to go through the same “oh my god/youtuber turned musician/the career trajectory is insane” like everyone else always does, because I truly think Quadeca is way beyond that argument now. This is his Odyssey, his magnum opus, and we’re witnessing something generational here, something which he will be remembered ... read more
girlie went 6/6 on this…
this is a proper deluxe album with tracks that quite don’t fit the original album but on their own body of work are really good. some of her best production throwbacks all the way from sweetener and positions are a part of the bonus tracks. i really loved it!
bro casually dropped aoty in january
best birthday gift ever, first of all thank you abel 😠this record is something else… top to bottom, it’s such an amazing piece. im gonna have this on loop for the entire month
