I'm not going to write a full review for this because everything that can be said has already been said about it. Yes, it is incredible. Go listen to it, nothing left to be said.
I like what this album has when it isn't repeating itself 10 billion times over. Every song on this album besides Bombtrack is like an 80 for me. It's a very cool idea to combine hard rock and rap together, and Take the Power Back and Settle for Nothing are unique and fun to listen to. However, if you asked me to give highlights of the album in the second half, I would struggle to name even one. Again, I don't hate or dislike this album at all, I just wish they changed their song ... read more
I do like this album, I really do. I want to like it more than I do. The main problem with it is that it's way too inconsistent. You can get absolute bangers like the title track, but then be shoved into the extremely repetitive In Shades. You can be extremely bored by On the Nickel (which as very good lyrics but a boring instrumental), and then get a fantastic pick like Mr Siegal. Overall, it balances out and settles for an 83 for me.
This one is good, nothing mind-blowing but good nonetheless. The best track by far was Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis. I think my main problem with Blue Valentine is that half of these songs go on for far too long. The one criticism I have for Tom Waits is that he gets too stuck on ideas and won't let them go, even if the song goes on for 8 minutes (looking at you $29.00). There is good material here though, the title track and ASLBFAPBG were close seconds. I might come back ... read more
Someone else said it best, this album is like a carnival ride running low on batteries in the best way possible. I would try and say this album is experimental but this is Tom Waits, so that's to be expected by this point. Lots of great instrumentals on here and writing as well, continues the "If this is the best we have, we are fucked a species" mentality Bone Machine set up. My favorites were Everything Goes to Hell, Coney Island Baby, God's Away On Business, Knife Chase, ... read more
Absolutely fantastic. I liked this one quite a bit when I first heard it but it somehow grew on me even more. Lots of fun homemade experiments in here. I would say this album is Tom Waits at his most primal, there is more experimental stuff to come but this is 100% his most primal. My favorite tracks had to be The Earth Died Screaming, Such a Scream, All Stripped Down, Who Are You, Goin' Out West, MITRB, and I Don't Wanna Grow Up. It's really hard to choose a favorite on this ... read more
This one is great, I really recommend it (also the album cover is so cool). This is probably the funkiest Primus album I've listened to. I love the production on it, super punchy and in your face. My only problem with it is how the drums sound a little bit plastic. The only tracks on this album I wasn't a huge fan of were Tragedy's A'Comin' (but then again, other people seem to love it so I might just have to sit on it more), but even then that song is still okay. ... read more
This album is really weird, I'll tell you now. It's like if a bunch of 13 year old Nirvana fans got together and made an album that boils down, "fuck you, we hate everything besides sex and LSD". It ranges from very funny 8/10's to being unlistenable. Nonetheless, I like it in a weird way. It recaptures that feeling I had when I made music with my friend Luke back when we were 12 and just wanted to write immature stupid songs. You can tell they had fun making this ... read more
You know it's weird, I went expecting this album to be silly like the rest of their discography and was greeted/punched by themes of drug addiction and divorce. However, I welcome it with open arms. The instrumentals are varied and catchy. Zoloft in particular is one of my favorite instrumentals from them in general (It's Gonna Be a Long Night and Chocolate Town are close seconds, Hey There Fancypants in third). Another great album by ween, good job :)
I'm sorry, it just isn't for me. It's very surfer rock and that's all fine and dandy but the lyrics are kind of cringe. The first two songs instrumentally are great but after the album sort of just drops off. You'll Understand When You're Older I actually like for some reason, fun instrumental. I like how the loud verses contrast the quiet chorus, which then drops you right back into the chaos. Besides that song and bits and pieces of the first two, this album is a ... read more
Another incredibly varied (no pun intended) and interesting album from Tom Waits (as usual). He turns a lot more into low production americano styled music here, and I absolutely love it. Big In Japan and Chocolate Jesus are probably my favorites but almost every single song here has something to offer. The best way to describe this album is that it's like dried blood splattered onto a fence on a hot sunny day in Texas, don't ask me why, it just fits it.
Fantastic punk rock album. The lyrics are filled with teenage angst and hurt, while still being very well written. The instrumentals are awesome, very punkish. This is probably my favorite Los Campesinos! album of all time. My favorite song was easily "It's Never That Easy Though, Is It? (Song for the Other Kurt)". However, I could also take Miserabilia, Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #1, and the title track.
I hate to leave a somewhat negative review on a primus album, but I just find The Brown Album uninteresting. The songs on here are 50% whatever, 30% bad, 10% good, and 10% the best that Primus has to offer. TROSW, Puddin' Taine, and Camelback Cinema are especially insufferable. It's not awful by any means but winds up being forgettable when all is said and done.
Absolutely fucking heart-wrenching. I don't want to go too much into detail because this album is better experienced than described, but holy shit. Absolutely one of the best depictions of a disease eating away at someone that I have ever... I don't know, experienced? This is better than most fiction out there in general. If you haven't listened to this album, it's a collection of remixed old 30's ballroom music that slowly distorts overtime to depict how dementia takes ... read more
I like a lot of the guitar work on this album, but that's all i really have to say about it. The only fully good track on here was I'm Sorry Boris, which has both good lyrics and a wonderfully melancholic instrumental. The main problem with this album is the lyrics. I won't be talking about the whole abuse situation since it's been pummeled into the ground at this point but it is genuinely heartbreaking what he did to her and I fully support Shelby and hope that she ... read more
Very fun album. It never gets too heavy or distorted to the point where it loses it's melody and has wonderful rhythm throughout it's whole runtime. My least favorite track without a doubt is probably Mind. Feels like it has no substance, but I guess I liked the "Free thinkers are dangerous" sample they included. On the contrary, my favorite tracks were Suite-Pee, Sugar, and P.L.U.C.K. The highlight of the album is one hundred percent Serj Tankian. He's just so silly ... read more
The user score on this album is absolutely diabolical. I know it's experimental but it feels like a damn journey. I can't tell you the amount of times this album has gotten me through emotional stress and sadness. I find it deeply ironic that Jack made this album to help himself process his own grief, and in the end helped others process their own. It has it's flaws, but those flaws add to the authentic, depressing, and down to earth feel of the album. Best songs on this album ... read more
Extremely sad album about grief and death. You can feel the emotions running their course throughout the albums runtime, especially on the title track. Instrumentally, it's a perfect mix of the heavier and tribal sides of TOOL. In my eyes, this is their best album. My favorites were Intension, Jambi, and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned.
Literally almost every song in this record is an absolute banger. I wasn't a fan of The Ol' Diamondback Sturgeon but it still doesn't effect my rating, as the masterpieces on this album completely overshadow it's flaws. The Air is Getting Slippery, My Name is Mud, Nature Boy, and Hamburger Train go especially hard. Some people might hate on the ending of the album but I think it's perfectly disturbing. This entire album sounds like you just murdered somebody and this is ... read more
