Probably the most radio-friendly set HIM ever produced, but with hooks and riffs as catchy as this, it's not a bad thing.
Undisputed Gem: Killing Loneliness
Choice Cuts: Drunk on Shadows, Vampire Heart, Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly, Play Dead
A sophisticated and lush ode to 60s pop music filled with Beatlesque melodies and strong, accomplished production that makes all 10 tracks, despite it's short length, never feel unfinished or unrealized. A true gem.
The tracks that do work (Wilson [Expensive Mistakes], Church, Last of the Real Ones and the closer Bishop's Knife Trick) keeps M A N I A from being a complete disaster, but large chunks of this record is just utter cacophony; All the sound and fury but nothing compelling underneath.
The only thing R Kelly admits to is that he has lost all sense of good judgement and good taste as an artist.
