I’ve made my thoughts on contemporary/bro/party country pretty well known. It’s in a fucking dire state and is making country as a whole genre look horrible. Mind you, country has produced some of the most beautiful songs ever made. Its association with folk music has led to some of the most gorgeously made and written music ever made. But contemporary country is a mountain of shit. There’s little to no contemporary country that I actually find to be tolerable or listenable. ... read more
A brand new political hip hop album from Genesis Owusu! I’ve never heard an album from Genesis Owusu, but I’m certainly interested!
We open with Pirate Radio, which is this punchy, politically charged opener, that genuinely, to me, sounds like he’s sampling the drum part for Lovefingers by Silver Apples, which is absolutely badass! But even if it didn’t sample it, it’s still a badass opener! I loved it! Stampede is a really catchy song! Genuinely a great song! ... read more
The third and final Drake album of the day. The bar is six feet under. Surely it can’t get worse.
Rusty Intro is miserable. Like it reminds me of Ex-Bitch by X, but a million times worse. WNBA is horrible. So fucking boring. Slap The City is fucking boring. High Fives is another boring song. Hurrr Nor Thurrr is literally musical Temperpedic. Just so fucking tiring. It’s so fucking boring. I’m Spent is so fucking boring. Classic is another fucking boring song. This album is ... read more
This is the second Drake album I’m listening to today. Currently the worst reviewed one on here. Iceman was horrible. My expectations are low. Maybe this’ll surprise me.
I’ve seen comments around the internet saying that Drake’s mom is the woman prominently featured on the cover. I’ve also seen this joke around the internet and I will also be joining in on it, Hoe Phase was a very interesting name choice for the opener. Saying that what an unlistenable opener. ... read more
Let me start by saying, this is absolutely a biased opinion. If you like this, go ahead. Going into this album, I fucking hate Drake. I have always hated him. I think he’s a pathetic little pissy bitch boy without a pair of balls. Seeing him slightly stumble and then fully fall in 2024’s infamous rap battle with Kendrick was a wonderful thing. I have dabbled in Drake’s music before, and cannot begin to understand the acclaim. Take Care is literally only notable to me because ... read more
SURPRISE NEW JANE REMOVER!!!
We open with If You Think I’m A Bitch, You Should Meet Jane Remover which is essentially what you already love about Jane Removers typical style, but a little toned down. Don’t get me wrong, it goes hard, but it’s not as hefty as anything on Revengeseekerz! Saying that, not many albums are as hard as Revengeseekerz. It’s an excellent opener! XO TOUR LLIF3 is a track that goes exponentially harder! It’s loud, it’s booming, ... read more
You know, if it weren’t for that fucking autotune, this would be excellent! Beautiful lyrics, beautiful instrumentation, the vocals are a killer. It ruins this song pretty extraordinarily. It comes out to something terrible.
After releasing the very great, From The Pyre last year, and the brilliant Prelude To Ecstasy the year before that, I was excited to see what would come of one of the most exciting indie rock groups out there right now. What I did not expect them to do was come out with something this hard! This rules! This absolutely rules! A drastic tonal shift! This is how you do switch from poppier music to rock. Charli XCX take fucking notes, you need to.
I have never heard a Boards of Canada album before but I have heard of Boards of Canada. Mostly due to the fact that Gyroscope is used in the 2012 horror film, Sinister. But beyond that song, I didn’t think I had heard much more of them. It turns out that Beware The Friendly Stranger was the song in the background of Salad Fingers! Didn’t know that! But getting into the rest of the album…what a truly puzzling (IN A GOOD WAY) experience! Some of the production here is baffling ... read more
Guys…I can’t lie…I’m loving this rollout. I know it’s been rather unpopular so far to say the least, but I am loving this already. I loved Babygirl. I also loved this track! Just a beautiful song!
Great stuff! Truly! Boards Of Canada really sets the tone for their brand new album coming out.
Oh. Oh no. When I heard that Charli XCX was going to start making rock music, I was certainly skeptical. Unless she really pulled off a miracle, I did not have high hopes for it. If this is the start to her “rock music” catalogue…bad start.
Oh fuck. That autotune. I know that’s a commonly agreed upon problem with this song, but holy shit it’s just so hard not to comment on it. Horrible choice. Instrumentation is good. It’s a good indie rock jammer in the instrumental, but those vocals pretty heavily cripple this song. It’s pretty bad.
I find that this album’s music is between great and excellent all throughout the project! Production, lyrics, flow, all great to excellent! However it’s the ambition of this project which brings this album down for me. It is very avant garde with its musical styling. Like it’s giving We Buy Diabetic Test Strips by Armand Hammer a run for its money on the heft of the experimentation heard on this project. My biggest problem with the album is its relisten value, which for me ... read more
Truly one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. The first time I heard it I was laughing hysterically
It’s the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and it’s a, let’s see here…Metal album….okay.
The album opens with How Should I Feel and it’s a mostly boring and uninventive song that I really struggled to get into. It’s pretty bad as an opener and the usage of that sample is just…I don’t like it. Die is another song which features a 2000’s emo sample. This is another song which I simply didn’t like. It’s another ... read more
It’s the first project for OOIOO in 6 years and the first for Lightning Bolt in 7 years. Recently I’ve really gotten into Lightning Bolt’s early works in Hypermagic Mountain and Wonderful Rainbow, which in my opinion are both 21st century classics. I have never heard anything by OOIOO so I’m certainly interested.
The Horizon opens the album and is 7 minutes long. Not gonna lie, I genuinely thought I’d already heard all of the first song and got into the second ... read more
