It’s the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and it’s a, let’s see here…Metal album….okay.
The album opens with How Should I Feel and it’s a mostly boring and uninventive song that I really struggled to get into. It’s pretty bad as an opener and the usage of that sample is just…I don’t like it. Die is another song which features a 2000’s emo sample. This is another song which I simply didn’t like. It’s another ... read more
It’s the first project for OOIOO in 6 years and the first for Lightning Bolt in 7 years. Recently I’ve really gotten into Lightning Bolt’s early works in Hypermagic Mountain and Wonderful Rainbow, which in my opinion are both 21st century classics. I have never heard anything by OOIOO so I’m certainly interested.
The Horizon opens the album and is 7 minutes long. Not gonna lie, I genuinely thought I’d already heard all of the first song and got into the second ... read more
I’ve honestly never heard of Jill Scott. Always looking to get into new artists!
Be Great is an excellent braggadocios track that wonderfully opens the album! Beautiful People is a beautiful, wonderful track! Offadaback is a great song! Norf Side is just an outstanding track! Pay U on Tuesday is seriously outstanding! Loved this song! Excellent stuff! Pressha is another excellent song! BPOTY is a good song! Me 4 is a great song. The Math is a beautiful song. It’s great! A Universe ... read more
I preordered this vinyl months ago and have been meaning to get around to it for a while now. Now is finally time!
The album opens with a brilliant rendition of Islands of Men. It actually helps me enjoy the original a lot more! On Getting Killed, that’s part of the three song stretch where I didn’t love the tracks! This rendition is outstanding! They then do a beautiful rendition of Au Pays Du Cocaine. Genuinely just gorgeous all around! Their performance of Half Real also ... read more
Okay, so this review is gonna be a little different. I’m gonna review both disks separately as different albums. I’m gonna score both of them. Then for the final rating, I’m gonna average out the two scores to see what the final score is. Anyway, let’s get into it.
POMPEII:
I’ve never really heard of MIKE before, but just looking at his already expansive discography, he seems incredibly talented. He’s put out at least one album or mixtape every year since ... read more
Blu and Exile earlier this decade released Miles, a dissection of black history and personal history and it’s all told through brilliant conscious rapping from Blu and beautiful jazzy production by Exile. It is my favorite rap album of the decade so far, and the fact that there is most likely never going to be another vinyl pressing for it again breaks my heart. How I would love to add it to my collection. I haven’t had the opportunity to get around to their last album, Love (the) ... read more
Outstanding stuff here from Tom Waits! Massive Attack with their production is outstanding! This is one of the best songs I’ve heard thus far in the year!
After having heard Rocket USA used in Alex Garland’s 2024 film Civil War, I decided to seek out the album in which the song originated. Here are my notes.
Ghost Rider is a very cool song! It’s got a great groove to it. It’s punchy. It’s electric. It’s great! Rocket USA is an outstanding track! It’s usage of the metaphor of a high-speed car crash in place of political collapse in New York during the 70’s is brilliant! Cheree is where the album kind of ... read more
It’s a good album! There’s the occasional great and even excellent song. Starshine is rightfully not a very good song. But I don’t think we talk about just how horrendously awful the Clint Eastwood remix closer is. Holy shit! It should be discussed in the discussion of the worst remixes ever. Like it is HORRID!! But aside from Starshine and that horrid Clint Eastwood remix, this is good. It’s a good debut!!
This is essentially a choose your own adventure album, but with only 2 options. You can either listen to the album as a singular 41 minute song or a normal album structure. I chose to do the 41 minute song.
The album is good. It’s got good instrumentation, good lyrics, and good vocals. It’s very enjoyable too. It’s a good listen. Its storytelling is good. It’s just purely a good prog, post rock album. However, I do believe that this is a bit too theatrical, not to have ... read more
I don’t know a whole lot about Slayyyter, but this is currently the highest rated album of the year on AOTY, so let’s see what all the fuss is about.
Dance is… mid in my opinion. It realistically feels like any other club banger and feels like a snobbier version of a song off of Charli XCX’s Brat. It’s mid. Beat Up Chanel$ is one of those songs which I personally think is already overrated. It’s not bad. It just doesn’t really stick out to me as ... read more
I could start with the background to this album, but you probably already know it. Black Midi bassist Cameron Picton creates a new project in My New Band Believe. Been highly anticipating this album. I loved their first single for this rollout in Numerology, only for it not to be featured on this album. But their first official single for this rollout was Love Story, and I ended up loving that song too! It was a beautiful, almost Elliot Smith flavored song, with a lot of beautiful stuff in ... read more
Seeing that this album is currently getting some pretty good reviews, I figured I’d check it out. From one metal project to another.
The album opens with Avamunha which is this nature-based, heavy, loud, unique metal jam. It’s cool sounding and I think it’s good! Pe Rembi’urama is another nature based metal jam that mixes in some different instruments than what you’d typically hear in a metal album. It takes elements of samba music and introduces it to metal. The ... read more
I don’t know a whole lot about Sunn O))) aside from them being popular in the drone metal scene. Being brought up along side Boris in discussion. If this is anywhere near as good as Boris’ drone metal work, then I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.
The album opens with XXANN which is this 18 minute behemoth of an opener. It’s a good opener. Heavy as hell. Does Anyone Hear Like Venom is an alright song. Very simply put. Butch’s Guns is a 14 minute track and in my opinion, ... read more
"The first thing that matters: I am a child of the eighties. I grew up in a neon wonderland of talking horses, compassionate bears, hair that didn't move in a stiff wind, and the constant threat of nuclear war." — Seanan McGuire
The Cold War lasted from around 1947 to 1991. It’s described by Britannica as “the open yet restricted rivalry that developed after World War II between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies.” The ... read more
Oh yes, it’s the return of the one and only Thundercat. Bassist extraordinaire, contemporary funk/jazz/soul leader, producer, singer, songwriter, Thundercat, has officially returned after a six year break from solo projects. While yes, he’s been pretty ever present in the world of music, being heard all over the place, he’s finally released his first project in exactly 6 years. I quite enjoyed Drunk. I thought it was a very good project that even showed signs of greatness and ... read more
Angine De Poitrine is one of the most unique and interesting bands coming up right now. Their first album, Vol. 1, was certainly a little flawed with some of the songs and even though it had those flaws, I still thought it was a very great debut for the band. They finally have released their sophomore album Vol. 2, and it’s been one of my most anticipated albums for the whole year, following two excellent singles in Fabienk and Mata Zyklek, and a very entertaining, exciting, and brilliant ... read more
