I have no idea who Joyce Manor is…let’s get into the album.
The album opens with I Know Where Mark Chen Lives. It’s a pretty bad track. It isn’t good. Very bland. Falling Into It follows that song and it’s just a sweet love song. Saying that, it’s not very eventful. It’s just a boring track honestly. Not even the breakdown does that much for me. It’s just mid in my opinion. All My Friends Are So Depressed is a bad and boring track. Well, ... read more
You may call me a Silver Mt. Zion dick rider as you please, but goddamn do I love me a Silver Mt. Zion! And I’ve only heard one album! But that album was one that I commonly refer to as one of my favorite albums ever made! That, of course, being He Has Left Us Alone…! It’s one of those albums that I listened to and soon after became obsessed with! I still return to it very often to this day! The feeling I got when listening to it for the first time though was one of the most ... read more
Quadeca is truly making a name for himself as an artist to hear! And the thing is, is that he’s kind of going through it naturally. It’s not jarring. Some artists can switch and it feels completely natural, whereas others make the switch and it feels like whiplash (take notes Lil Wayne). When I saw that Quadeca released a second disk to his most recent project, Vanisher, Horizon Scraper, I was excited! I was a big fan of Vanisher and thought that Quadeca was stretching a concept in ... read more
I am a very casual fan of Xiu Xiu. I’ve given some of their most popular albums a listen, but never really strayed off the path to get deep into the woods of their discography! I am certainly looking to get into their discography this year, due to a wild fascination with their music! Let this be the first one where I’m getting off the beaten path of their discography. This is a covers album, but it’s a covers album by Xiu Xiu. Those typically go quite well! I’m excited ... read more
Alexander Gregory Kent had something to do with this album! That means something to fans of the underground rock scene!
The album opens with a spoken word story of a broken relic in Banjo Bandit. It’s a strange and interesting way to open the album. We then get into Trick Pony. It’s a lyrically great piece, and is performed beautifully by Rachel Kennedy! Very great track! Save It For A Rainy Day is a beautiful acoustic track! Loved this one! First Time Trying is another beautiful ... read more
I can’t lie to you all, the well for music this year so far is pretty dry. Not much is releasing that’s getting enormous attention of any kind. Like obviously there’s the huge releases like Don’t Be Dumb, but other than that, I can’t honestly recall another huge album release for this year so far. The underground is thriving in a number of different ways! So when I saw that this album was doing pretty decent numbers on AOTY, I decided to check it out without much ... read more
You know what sold me on listening to this. There’s a DOOM feature! That’s enough to sell me on any album! Literally if you feature DOOM in any capacity, I’ll give you a chance. Favorite rapper of all time has major influence over me! I won’t lie to you, I’ve never heard of IDK. I am into the underground rap scene, but I’ve never heard of this guy. I am deeply interested though, and supposedly he’s dropping a sister album to this later this year so why ... read more
I’ve never personally gone out of my way to listen to J. Cole. I have heard rumors of him being a genuine good dude which is certainly a positive. I’m just not sure why I never listened to his music. Will this album persuade me to listen to his other stuff? Let’s see!
The album just straight up opens with Carolina in my Mind by James Taylor. Or so it seems! Then there’s a shocking ending! Very interesting opener! Definitely hooks you if you were hesitant. Two Six ... read more
The group once known as Injury Reserve returns for the first time since the death of Jordan Alexander Groggs. The group took a near two year long break before dropping a double single comprised of Double Trio and the song By Storm. They would then take another year and a half long break before coming back in February of 2025 with the first single on this near year long album rollout with Zig Zag. Thus the four singles released following this and finally By Storm debuted their ... read more
This the brand new EP from up and coming indie rock group Westside Cowboy. This EP, So Much Country Til We Get There is the follow-up EP to their 2025 EP This Better Be Something Great. I thought the EP was great but it gave us a bit too much in the roll out of the EP. This one did a better job in the roll out, giving us only 2 singles. This EP is once again comprised of 5 songs, but I don’t feel as miffed about the roll out.
The album opens with a genuinely gorgeous track! Strange ... read more
This is the debut EP of up and coming indie rock group Westside Cowboy. In the lead up to this debut EP they gave us a taste of 4 of the 5 songs in this EP. The first one we got was the opener of the album, I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You). This is a fun little song with an extremely catchy hook! It’s a very enjoyable song even though the lyrics can be a bit hard to understand due to the mixing being just a little off. At least that’s how I ... read more
Converge has been around for a while now and they have their fair share of extremely praised albums over the years! Like seriously praised! Some would call some of their albums the best of Metal from the 21st century so far! Saying all that, this is my first Converge record! All I know is they’re highly acclaimed, both critically and popularly!
The title track opens the album and what a fun opener this is! Just a stupidly great opener! Love the vocals! Bad Faith is really great! Just ... read more
I am from Indiana. Also this feels like a more rock influenced Brat to me.
We open the tracklist with Sevastopol which is a jarring opener! Like the first time I turned the song on, it scared the shit out of me! It’s a crazy way to start the album, but as a song, I don’t like it very much. Magazine is a song with very fun and dance-y production! It’s a track I had a great time with, even though its lyrics are pretty intense and threatening! I love the breakdown near the end ... read more
I didn’t enjoy Brat the first time I heard it, and upon returning to it a few times since, I’ve grown to love the project as a fun, interesting album! I love the album as I write this review. So the announcement of a new album so shortly after the tour surprised me. The soundtrack/album accompanying the new Emerald Fennel directed adaptation of the classic romance novel Wuthering Heights. Fascinating idea! You don’t really see the accompanying soundtrack that much anymore. If ... read more
I haven’t heard much of Keem outside of his feature works and his work with Kendrick (Family Ties, etc). Therefore when I heard he had a new album coming out, I was intrigued! We begin the album with No Security, which is a pretty good intro track to the album. It sets the stage for what’s to come throughout the rest of the album and I enjoyed it quite a bit! Ca$ino is a great track! Got great production, great lyrics, and a great performance from Keem. Birds and Bees is a corny ... read more
I actually loved this a lot! Breach didn’t blow me away and I have only returned to it a handful of times since its release. I honestly thought that this was a wonderful track and had it been on Breach’s original release, the project as a whole might’ve benefited from this inclusion alone! A great track!
Genuinely gives a feeling of finality to not only an era but an entire discography. Seriously, if this is the final album in their discography, then I see this as a massive high point in their discography. I love everything about this album! I love how it sounds! I love the instrumentation! I love Gira’s vocal performances! I love the compositions! I love this album! I think it’s beautiful! I find that (Rope) Away is amazing! Maybe the best closer in their entire discography! ... read more
