Say, that Beggar Lover song is kinda long...I know, I'm so original.
I learned that this was written during the pandemic, and that Michael Gira genuinely thought he was going to die during that so as I understand it, this is him coming to terms with his death, if it did come.
I have a tendency to enjoy the luscious, folkier, and more country influenced work of Swans. It's part of the reason that I tend to love White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity and The Seer over anything else ... read more
It’s a reasonably divisive album amongst the fan base! Some love it, some are less fond of it. I’m somewhere in the middle when it comes to this album, because I do think this does nothing new for Swans. It’s more or less stuff we’ve heard before. It is a very beautiful! Much of its lyricism is excellent! The “I suck, I lick, white nipples” line is certainly questionable, but that’s the standout “pause” moment if you will when it comes to my ... read more
Undeniably brilliant compositions, magnificent performances, genuinely epic. All of this to say that it's not my favorite Swans record. I wouldn't even place it top 3. I think the album isn't as relistenable as my three favorite albums. I would argue that it's just a bit too long. Saying all that, I do love this album! I think it's genuinely terrific!
Absolutely loved this! I haven't heard that much music from Bad Bunny, but do understand that there will be a review of his most recent album, because I am deeply fascinated
*The song of eternal suffering (Peach Scone) begins*
Ahh! Ahh! Oh god! Oh Jesus Christ! Oh my fucking god! OH GOD! OH GOD! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
“People have done this, but better” the album.
Seriously, this to me is a painfully average album full of sounds that you’ve heard before and monumentally better! The tracklist does feature some highlights for sure, like “Past Won’t Leave My Bed”. Genuinely a brilliant track! It’s beautiful! Just genuinely beautiful! There’s a few others in the tracklist that stand out to me, but he’s not taking leaps away from what he’s done before! ... read more
A Redux Review of To Be Kind: 90 -> 85
To put it in simple terms…overrated. I truly cannot fully understand the acclaim that this album receives. Don’t get me wrong, it still has great, even incredible stuff on it. Bring The Sun is a musical powerhouse in my opinion. But this also has Some Things We Do, which is just plainly one of my least favorite songs in their discography. I have no idea why anyone would like that song. It’s so boring, lyrically uninteresting, and ... read more
I’m not gonna lie to you all…this is one of my favorite albums ever made. I am absolutely floored by this one! The compositions on this album are out of this world! The writing is amazing! The instrumentation is outstanding! Everything about this album is perfect! I loved this! I absolutely loved this album!
YAY! SWANS CAME BACK!
And they’re back with a vengeance, My Father… presents some of the heaviest rock instrumentals that the band has had to date! Punchy, heavy, and honestly terrific to listen to! The lyrical work is also really really great! The two points for me that are lacking are on Reeling The Liars In and on You Fucking People Make Me Sick…I know that may piss some people off. I thought the song was lacking a certain something that I can’t really place. But ... read more
I've been stewing on this one for a while now. I took a lengthy gap in my listen through of Swans' discography because I knew that once The Great Annihilator ended, that meant it was time for Soundtracks For The Blind. I believe it's their longest studio album. Some of them get close, but clocking in at two hours and twenty-one minutes, I believe this stands as their longest album. That is a daunting run time for an album of any kind. Sure, there are longer albums out there, and ... read more
A consistently stunning 37 minutes! Something that definitely set the standard for all Dream Pop that followed this! Magnificent project! Gorgeous, magnificent project!
I definitely lean more on the side of audiences with this one. I saw someone describe this as critical pop music and that couldn’t be more true! This is made to please critics. In a way, it reminds me of Self Esteem’s music. Critics adore her music and audiences tend to dislike it. I personally am not a fan of Self Esteem or her work. Especially her last record, which I still actively dislike. This one reminds me of a more rock influenced Self Esteem. Some artists do spoken word ... read more
Oh, the irony that Johnny Rotten now supports a fascist dictator.
Genuinely such a funny video! There's some funny editing in there where you can see that Greep is absolutely not gonna get a strike and still does! Love this video!
Only the new tracks will be discussed here:
This new set of tracks is phenomenal from these guys, or these boys if you will. Therapy II is a great fun punk track with some mildly disturbing lyrics. I can’t tell who’s singing the song though. It doesn’t sound like Sebastian’s voice. It’s a bit too high pitched to be Sebastian’s voice. Whoever it is, it sounds cool, and I like the vocal stylings chosen. It enhances the track for me. Middleage (d) Humanoid is ... read more
“FORCED TO EMBRACE, EVERYTHING STOLEN, EVER BEING CHOKED, UNTIL MY LAST BREATH” ah music.
If this happens to be the final Megadeth album, they not only land in a face plant, but also in a scorpion, where they break their neck, and paralyze themselves. This is fucking horrible! This is fucking HORRIBLE. They play you the same old bullshit that makes you question how a group like this created Rust In Peace. Just bafflingly terrible. Not even the last jab at Metallica does something ... read more
