I love the drums on this album, how they crash through the chill and ambient instrumentals. Overall just a great project to zone out or study to.
Just about as good as a debut project can be. SOAD's self-titled is wonderfully quirky and perfectly sets the tone of the music they would come to make in the years following. I would also like to note that Serj's vocal performance on "Spiders" is among my favorite of all time. Any genre.
Outside of a few moments, I almost immediately lost interest after track 1. Not to say it's bad or anything. I just feel like there's so many other projects and artists that do this sound better. I'm glad these guys got back together though.
I went into this album completely blind. I only looked at the cover, saw that the album was 30 minutes long, and decided to listen. Weirdly enough I feel like that was a great way to go into this album. E is a strange, yet inviting project that is easily enjoyable to just about anyone. Not every song here is going to stick with you, but the musical ideas present here is more than enough to leave an impression.
TA13OO strikes me as being a push for experimentation and personality for trap and modern hip-hop. It's easy to appreciate the kind of concept Denzel goes for on this album, seeing as how enjoyable most of the tracklist is. The shortcomings largely lie in the conceptual structure that TA13OO follows. Despite this, Denzel Curry brings with this project one of the most defining moments of the late 2010's hip-hop sound in my eyes.
I can't get enough of just how smooth and precise this album is in every aspect. Every note, word spoken and vocal inflection has it's right place in their respective songs.
Genuinely kind of shocked at how ahead of it's time this album was. At a time when Hip Hop was still in it's adolescent stage, Geto Boys bring with this release a project filled with lyrics grounded in the harsh realities of the urban lifestyle in black communities. What strikes me most about this album is the mature portrayals of very real societal and personal issues such as gang violence, paranoia, and suicidal thoughts. The music is not without it's faults, but the aggression ... read more
I absolutely love the Jazz and Psychedelic influences in Flying Lotus' production on this album. My criticisms only really boil down to the fact that this project can only really be enjoyed on a full listen due to the short nature of individual tracks. The quality of this project overall is high, but my personal preferences keep this one from being in my rotation. Kendrick's verse is fire though.
It sounds exactly like how the cover looks. Purely blissful, and is only resemblant of feelings of joy and innocent pleasures. Highly recommend this one to any radiohead fans who haven't felt joy in the past few months.
A wonderful showing of exhilarating Jazz performances. Each track feels particularly exciting in it's own way, but the project still manages to maintain a generally cool and controlled vibe. Great album to get lost in the soundscape of, and an even better one for inventive Jazz fans looking for tight, and expertly played musical pieces.
