Ed Sheeran - ÷
46

I'm a little more partial to Ed rthan other Pop singer/songwriters due to our shared gingerness. That being said, this album is not my favorite. It's good for what it is, and songs like CotH and Galway Girl still hit. I like the guy's voice, but the songs in the back half of the album feel slow and very much like one another. It's ok, not good or great.

Justin Bieber - Purpose
45

It's radio pop, simple as, and if this were 2016 I would've enjoyed this much more. But alas, this is not 2016, and Justin Bieber does not interest me much. This was a recommendation from one of my friends, and I mean, it's alright. Outside of this album's big hits, it drags on. Justin is droney at points, and I hate that. 48 minutes of JB is more than enough, and this album is consistently uninteresting. The 3 features in the middle give it some life, but the shitty piano ballad that is Life ... read more

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
92

One of the best albums of not only the 1990s but ever. Simply brilliant and it's so sad this is her only solo work. Lovely, simply lovely.

Jane Remover - Census Designated
76

I understand Jane Remover's appeal. I quite like this album, though it is very rock-y and I am, well, not a rock person. Need to explore more of her and shoegaze in general.

Noah Kahan - Stick Season
67

I'm not a folk person, but so many people love this guy, so I had to take a listen. It's a great album, but I feel like at some points I was listenig to the same track 3-4 times in a row, which is keeping it down for me. These songs work on their own very well, though, and it's good music.

Zach Bryan - Zach Bryan
77

People at my southern private university absolutely love this album, and I understand why. I am not a country guy, even as a Texan, but I think Zach Bryan may have lassoed me in. This is a simply fantastic album, with ESOE, I Remember Everything, and JPLI being highlights.

Offset - SET IT OFF
70

what i expect from a Offset album. didn't drag on like i thought it would. Futures were all good, and the 3 track run from say my grace through broad day was a great opening.

Westside Gunn - And Then You Pray For Me
45

I never liked Westside Gunn's rap voice, so bringing myself to listen to this was a process. My question is why on earth are there so many fucking features? This isn't a producer project. This album is like if DJ Khaled did some rapping and was not bad at it. I don't hate it, but it's not my favorite at all, and it dragged for a little bit.

Dream & Yung Gravy - Everest
7

Really shitty basic pop music which is only saved by something actually original in a yung gravy verse

Travis Scott - UTOPIA
86

Travis has gone experimental, and it has paid off. One of the best albums of the year.

Dave - PSYCHODRAMA
83

This is one of the best UK Rap records of all time. Lesley is such a captivating song and having the cojones to put a track like that on your debut record is, just, wow. The 3-track run at the opening of the album is some of the best UK rap I've heard, and it's a tight project even at 51 minutes.

Lil Uzi Vert - Pink Tape
80

I hate long albums, and 1h30m of Lil Uzi Vert isn't that enticing of a listen. However, I liked Eternal Atake, and Uzi certainly isn't a boring artist. The album did feel a little dragged out at 26 tracks, longer than Uzi's non-deluxe releases, and some of it did feel repetitive. But, the album had some very good tracks like Nakamura and Suicide Doors. The Chop Suey cover isn't great, but it's immediately remedied by the next track. The rock songs on here are great, and showcase Uzi's ... read more

Peggy was right about Death Grips and MC Ride. This shit is overrated. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't see what everyone else does in Death Grips.

JPEGMAFIA - Black Ben Carson
78

Chaotic hip-hop horror, but it's really fucking good. It is on the lengthier side at 72 minutes (Spotify Edition), but it is a very good piece of work that doesn't feel too bloated and certainly not boring. Although not as polished as his later work, Black Ben Carson is a great introduction to JPEGMAFIA.

Dream - Until I End Up Dead

Horrific. gfy dream

51

I need more from Mother Petras here. Most of the songs are good and some of them have replay value, but this feels unoriginal and at times bland, which is not a good adjective in relevance to Kim's music. Also, Unholy just being on the album docks 10 points.

Young Thug - BUSINESS IS BUSINESS
59

Thugger's 3rd studio album isn't exactly disappointing, but it doesn't wow either. The opening track would be a great intro if it weren't for the hot ass tracks 2 and 3 bring, especially the former. The midsection of the album isn't bad, with pretty good tracks sprinkled throughout. However, the features on almost all tracks outshine Thug (except for Uzi and the "She beggin' me just to come piss in her crack" line), making it feel like this isn't really his album. While this could be ... read more

Gunna - a Gift & a Curse
52

Getting through 45 minutes of Gunna is a very arduous task by itself. bars such as "shitting on all of you turds" don't really make this task more nejoyable, but there are a few good tracks on here/ that being said, there is more mid than good. highlights include ca$h $hit and back to the moon, but the lowlights are more prevalent, especially born rich and paybach.

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
93

This is the best collab album of the decade so far, and until Peggy and Danny drop Volume 2, I don't think that'll change. Peggy continues to wow with his expert sampling and production, and every track has it's own appeal. Perfect length and amazing pacing will only add to the album's longevity. Special mention to redveil's great verse on KHK, as well as tracks like God Loves You and Lean Beef Patty being nearly perfect.

PinkPantheress - to hell with it
84

PinkPantheress' rise to stardom was quick, but warranted. This debut offering could be longer, both in song and in total length, but it is a lovely first project and gives me reason to pay attention to the UK's best new artist.
