Regardless of where the songs are going or who they're for, JID NEVER fails to spit like his life depends on it. Hearing a verse from him next to Eminem does put into perspective how JID can rap fast and still write meaningful lyrics because some of those Eminem bars on Animals were seriously so stupid
Randomly scrolling on this site can do wonders. Saw the really cool album art and no ratings and thought "I'm going to be annoying and have a 'underrated hidden gem discovery' moment but it's actually pretty good. Pulsing Digi-Hardcore with a very confusing original/remix distribution
You know it's a different sound for Clipse when the beats have more than just drums. From the production to the album cover to the features, this newest Clipse revival album is a clear effort to modernize the group for the current Hip Hop landscape, an effort pulled off very well.
The performances are pretty stellar both from Pusha and Malice, as well as the quite impressive feature list of legends across Hip Hop's history such as Kendrick, Tyler, and Nas. Pharrell proves that he ... read more
A nice demonstration of talent, but the songs are a bit lacking in regards to development or progression. Sudan Archives' newest single is incredible, and shows what she can really do given the proper room to breathe
Great if you love hearing one pretty decent song 10 times in a row
JOYRIDE is great and YIPEE-KI-YAY is terrible. most other songs fall somewhere in the middle. There's some instances where it's hard to deny Kesha's pursuit of artistic merit as opposed to just phoning it in but in most cases, it's clear that "." is a lot of trend chasing to get her name back in the public eye (a move I can't fully fault her for).
JOYRIDE and the general rollout of the album with the simple name/changing of old album covers feels very Charli ... read more
Hard to put exactly WHAT makes this album so good; I just found myself constantly engaged by the instrumentals. They aren't the most complex or blood-pumping, yet consistently work. The Punk elements might be subtle at times, but most definitely contribute to the atmosphere of dark unease
Does the most with the least. The Neptunes' beats aren't complex, but DAMN are they effective here. The rapping isn't blazingly fast, but it's still laser precise in cadence and writing
Great live performers, but these recordings fail to fully capture much dynamics
I'm taking a STAND for this album, okay??? It's monotonous and definitely pretty nonsensical, but I have respect for artits willing to put it all out there and try something unique. While many of the choices DON'T work, I think a solid handful DO. not enough to really save the entire lengthy ass runtime, but enough to give this utterly bizarre mess a hint of genius in my eyes
Scratches that itch left by a LOT of other great Post-Rock bands. It makes me a bit sad now listening to music that I KNOW my uncle would have liked because I know he would have loved this group. Definitely one to keep my eye on
Dunno how much direct inspiration is taken from Stereolab, but I definitely hear some similarities. I really enjoyed the project, if only for the slightly aimless feel to some of the songs. A bit more focus could have done a lot for me
So much of The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's history confuses me.
What many consider to be a slightly lesser version of the original 60's recordings, this initially scrapped album was intended to be released in the band's heyday as a wild and more experimental album scrapped out of fears of low sales. Perhaps I should have listened to the original Smile Sessions first, but even this version has lots to offer.
It is bizarre in some ways, but not enough of a departure to ... read more
If these are breakup songs, they hit somewhere in the realm between denial and manic acceptance
listened in the exact right mood because American Pie (the song) had be SOBBING listening. It's true that none of the songs manage to match it, but there's some pretty nice Folk songs on here if you separate them from American Pie and Vincent
Despite a lower user score, I think that this album is at least equivalent if not even a bit more enjoyable than their previous album: "Signos."
It's got some Funk groove to it which surprised me, and you can begin to hear the beginnings of a Proto-Shoegaze sound for the band
