It's kind of been established that Little Simz kinda just fucks around and does whatever she wants on her EPs and so I'm really not worried for any future full-length projects but...yeah this kinda sucked
I think its interesting for such a critically acclaimed and lauded album that almost all the user reviews have some form of "It's good: but..." in it.
The album definitely works more than it doesn't; The beats are really good and the verses generally hold up quite well, but I'm falling into the same trap as everyone else when I realistically rate this albm a bit higher than I maybe actually see it as due to its significance
I get the frankly valid criticisms of kind of just ripping off older Kanye, but I also think people are being a bit too hard on this project when I think the beats still sound pretty great regardless. I do agree that the rapping can vary WILDLY in terms of quality
Now I understand why Katy Perry keeps trying to make a big comeback if I had this many titanic hits on the same album I'd be chasing that high for the rest of my life, too
Definitely embodies the "happiness as the new punk" idea
I honestly have no idea how you'd go about creating a sample-heavy Afrobeat album like this, but I was pretty impressed just about the whole way through
I thought the concept of the genre mixing was really cool and the sound of the album is great, but I felt like all of the ideas and sounds that the album hit were hit very early on which sort of left me wanting more
Exists at the intersection of a bunch of genres and styles of the 90's and 2000's from Pop to R&B to Trip Hop.
Each and every song brings something fun and interesting to the table with chill, psychedelic beats and smooth vocals. Can definitely recommend this album to just about anyone
I actually think it's crazy that this album could have been decent given to someone else. Like Jessie Murph has a difficult to listen to voice in a unique way I've never experienced where she has good voice control but the tone of her voice is just SO grating and her attempt at a blaccent is insane at times. I also think the flip-flop between attempting heartfelt ballads and "Trap" bangers is just so funny
Way better than I expected this random "meme" album from the 60's to be
The title track is some of best from MatC ive heard so far so congrats on that! Those little critters are cheeked up too I like that
I think some pieces of art genuinely just aren't made to be fully appreciated by some people, and I very well might not be the target demographic to appreciate the subject matter of this project. Even still, I feel like some of the ideas come out a half-baked in regards to tying the songs into the spoken word tracks, and the production is quite barebones for me even if I enjoyed Jazmine's voice quite a bit
The songs are usually made up of very minimalistic and simple melodies, but through the course of the tracks they really worm into your brain and win you over
With this run of single releases, Magdalena Bay almost completely solidified my confidence in them as one of the most promising acts in today's contemporary music scene.
Im glad that this wasn't any kind of album or more official release, because if it was it would probably diminish the quality of these tracks as individual standout tracks which they're all best as
A very weird stream distribution. 3 songs with over a billion streams, several songs with only a million, and an interlude with only 3,000. The big singles are awesome and culturally enormous party songs, but the rest of the album is quite tight and well-produced as well
The songwriting is quite blunt, but I think that's part of what makes it so impactful. What The Mountain Goats do best on Tallahassee is paint vivid pictures that are fully comprehensible while still managing to be evocative
Did they just let him have all the instruments and recording equipment in jail?
