Very cinematic, very Star Wars John Williams epic Fantasy Sci-Fi odyssey, very cool
Some songs deal more directly with the purpose behind this charity compilation, while others tackle completely unrelated topics. Across a very impressive collection of artists, very few songs don't seriously deliver
An INCREDIBLY important album, largely being cited as the origin of Ambient as we know it. As an album, I think it doesn't quite live up to its colossal reputation
Spotify doesn't have the correct release date and I honestly didn't full know if this album had come out around the 60's or if it was a REALLY good pastiche.
There's definitely something special about it. The sound is entirely of its era, but it also has a sort of modern sense to it. I liked the more upbeat songs the most, but largely because im a suckered for that 60s/70s Soul instrumental style
Maybe not a top-tier Flying Lotus outing but FAR from being bad. This style of music is one I've heard many times, and while Flying Lotus didn't entirely reinvent any wheels, he managed to infuse enough of his own style and flair into the EP to keep me interested
Everyone blames Eminem for most of the current era "lyrical" white rappers like NF when we need to point more blame at Macklemore.
I think the fascinating thing about this album and Macklemore as an artist is his pure authenticity. I think that while he isn't afraid to be goofy, he still takes himself very seriously as an artist, and this album is filled with EARLY early Hip Hop legends from around the genres conception which really seems to indicate true passion and reverence ... read more
It's disappointing when Denzel Curry is VERY talented but for some reason insists on working with artists to create stuff that's just sorta fine
Look at this cover what the hell is going on in Australia dawg??
another instance, in my opinion, when the actual product of a band fails to really measure up to their presentation. While Empire Of The Sun uses these gaudy retro sci-fi aesthetics, their music, while psychedelic and pleasantly whimsical, is a bit too lethargic in most cases to really hook me in
Pounding, full of life and raw intense energy. I liked what I heard a lot, with my only real gripe being that the songs didn't always do much to differentiate themselves from each other outside of the vocal melodies
Maybe im crazy, but I liked the second half a lot more than the first. Mr. Brightside is an incredible song, but the first 5 or so tracks were trying VERY hard to be these grand stadium anthems (which they 100% were in fairness). The later songs, while still very big, felt less inhibited by expectations and could take some more risks
Parallels to other artists aside, Choker's 2026 album creates a lush and soulful sound, blending in Reggaeton and minimal pianos to create a diverse sound for a pretty brisk runtime
Has all the individual elements that make Mitski albums work, but without much to push them over the edge.
I find with Mitski lyrics that you can't always simply pick them up and resonate with them right off the bat. In a lot of cases, you have to "live" with them or really "experience" them so to speak. Because of this, I'll reserve most of my thoughts towards the lyrics until further relistens and time has passed.
From a production standpoint, I can't say ... read more
My God....they finally did it. They made what's EASILY their best album since Plastic Beach.
It was clear prior to the release of the full album through not only the singles, but the far stronger marketing that Damon and the Gorillaz team really wanted this album to make an impact. The digital and live events, art, short films, the collaborations; ALL of it got me more excited for this album than Cracker Midland ever could have.
What makes this album so special and really makes it feel ... read more
Due maybe in part to the length but likely just due to the lack of experience compared to "Addison" released two years later; Addison Rae's equally unoriginally named "AR" ep is a fun time, but not memorable at all.
I think my impression of Addison (the album) has definitely improved somewhat partially due to repeat listens are partially due to this project demonstrating the growth Addison (the person) has underwent. Songwriting on AR is serviceable, and the ... read more
A magical listening experience, especially going in blind like I did. None of the elements are really all that new, but they're executed well enough that they still feel fresh and interesting
I don't bemoan the short song lengths, but I do feel somewhat indifferent to most of the songs regardless of duration
Horrorcore bars of hatred and violence. I think that the execution of this EP probably falls just slightly short of extraordinary, but the beats are solid and the lyrics usually do well enough at keeping up.
If I'm being honest, Chapter One: Destiny is an entire albums worth of material, so I'm avoiding that section until a later date
