Real real eclectic of a record. From Alvvays to Rush to GY!BE to Broken Social Scene, Canada my glorious home country keeps creating amazing bands
Some of the most simultaneously lively and somber set of Singer-Songwriter performances I've heard and DAMN if the way those Jewish white boys harmonize isn't the most thug ass gangster shit ever
Way more Bluesy and Country than I expected, that's for sure. While the singles from this album have been burned into my mind since childhood, I never listened to much Rolling Stones. I think that "Let It Bleed" (the album) is decent if not slightly boring. Catchy, but for the most part pretty basic
The most impressive part of this album is probably that it created it's own genre (even if it's basically just Sampledelia for ketamine addicted zoomers).
Listening feels like just being told your grandpa you didn't really like particularly much just died in the middle of a rave. While very funny, the novelty factor almost overtakes the actual music. Some of the samples are hilarious, but a couple get abused a bit too heavily
One of the crazier musical redemptions in history. Never in my life did I think I'd listen to a full Rebecca Black album, let alone like it.
Fans of Charli XCX will Probably absolutely love the album, and people like me who like her decent enough will probably enjoy the album a decent bit. The sound might be evocative of Charli, but that's really only because they share common genres.
Production is lively and actually way more diverse than a lot of more recent Bubblegum Bass tends ... read more
Feels a bit like they're trying to say a bit more than is actually said on "Origin of Symmetry." The title, song names, and cover all provoke a lot of imagery that the music doesn't seem to properly follow up on. This is a sort of minor critiqu, but the one that stood out the most to me.
I'm going to avoid comparing them to Radiohead as an insult. They DO sound like they're copying Radiohead, but it's hard to sound wholly original as a band so whatever.

Was meaning to listen to more Four Tet but I lowkey forgor. "There Is Love in You" is a pretty great Ambient Electronic album. It's fresh and diverse and super pleasant listening. I maybe wasn't as blown away as some people seem to be by it, but quite good nonetheless
for a first Ghost album, I feel a bit confused by what Ghost is trying to be. I understand the poppy, Glam Metal aesthetic but it feels like if they're going in a campier, more cinematic direction than the music should maybe be a bit more...glamourous and cinematic?
For all that it's worth, I had some fun listening to "IMPERA." My major complaint was that it just feels a bit flat for the soaring and stadium-filling sound that Ghost are going for. I couldn't quite put ... read more
Why do I like this a lot more than most Arctic Monkeys stuff I've heard? Throw The Last Shadow Puppets with The Voidz and The Postal Service in the "band lead side projects I prefer to the main group" club
Gah DAMN is Coldplay so good at making overblown Stadium Rock sound insane
I'm not personally a huge fan of the rage-oriented direction Jane seems to be heading based off of the last few singles, but luckily she's still releasing some of the Shoegaze and Rock that got me listening.
"Ghostholding" is definitely a more mixed bag than something as amazing as Frailty. Some of the first tracks sound like she's doing her best Mk.Gee impression, but then after that the more classical Shoegaze/Slacker Rock sound really kicks in which I can come to ... read more
Powerful and uplifting. The vocalist has this absolutely commanding and expressive voice that brings forward so much emotion. Stands as a pretty high achievement in Indie Rock
a more appealing album to me than the already quite good "Too Bright" that preceded it. Went by like absolute NOTHING
Has that 1-2-double combo of Tik Tok indie songs with "I Can't Handle Change" and "Christmas Kids," but the other tracks are honestly pretty solid too. Derivative? very probably. the emotion and sound just about makes up, though
Probably close to about as perfect as a Singer-Songwriter project can be. The instrumentation isn't super complex but it works great, and the lyrics really sell the whole
I, however, should NOT have listened on Valentines Day
Ichiko embraces a more full sound and the result is honestly otherworldly. magical and serene
