Some of the most off-the-wall and quirky music I've heard from Bush (which is saying quite a lot). There's some truly amazing songs on "Never for Ever," but it's probably one of my less favourite Kate Bush albums that I've personally listened to
Both discs have a pretty distinct vision that I think both translate quite clearly. The first side is near flawless; focused, instrumentally genius, and really evocative vocal performances.
While I still enjoyed the second half a decent bit, the more strictly instrumental and Blues-inspired disc 2 definitely adds a bit of fat to what would otherwise be quintessential 70's Rock
It would appear that the East vs. West Hip Hop feud was, at its core, a freak-off. I thought that Biggie getting head on a song was bad, but then I heard 2Pac graphically describing the sex he's going to have for about half of a 5 minute song.
Freakiness might be the one area I can definitively say the West Coast scene wins. This album is REALLY horny. It's also really long. It's hard for me to claim that it's "filler" because just about every of the many songs ... read more
this is MUSIC deluxe; so so SO deep and rich and soulful. Sade might very well have one of music's most consistent discographies
A really nice debut; a little less adventurous than later music from Aoba if anything. All the building blocks are in place from the heavenly vocals to the simple yet effective strings, but later albums benefit from expanded techniques compared to Kamisori Otome
The more I listen to Wu-Tang and their associated solo careers, the more i realize how insanely influential and trend-setting they were. I feel like MF Doom lovingly took a lot inspiration, and the production holds up just as well today.
Ghostface Killah is an INSANE lyricist. He'll just let loose an unending barrage of crazy rhymes and act like nothing happened. I think the only things that really hold the album back are some poor aging in a couple lyrics which isn't entirely a ... read more
Some of the new tracks go hard, but feel sort of insubstantial on the whole. The Scaring the Hoes DLC pack grew on me so some of them might too, but they tend to sound like the distillation of the album sound without much added on top
Very "cool older brother" coded. If I close my eyes, I can almost smell the Mountain Dew and hear that original Xbox start up
Who would have known that almost entirely synthetically created music is the perfect sound for plants? it really is. "Mother Earth's Plantasia" is incredibly gentle, soothing, and very charming; reminding me a lot of video game soundtracks.
There's not necessarily a whole lot going on from a surface level, but this is among the first recorded albums using the Moog synthesizer, so the album acts as a neat monument, too. Apparently, the synthesizer and this music could ... read more
A nice collection of covers; a few of which I already really like the originals of. I think the grand and overly cinematic instrumentals don't compliment every one of the songs, but Happier Than Ever is definitely a song that DOES benefit from it
A really striking piece of somewhat-ambient somewhat-electronic somewhat-rock music. Almost lost me during a couple of the particularly repetitive and minimalistic moments, but the highlights really shine through
Honestly, none of this album feels real. From the dreamy AND industrial beats to the chilled out delivery, the atmosphere is quite something. The feature list is also composed of what I can only assume is just about the entirety of the underground Southern Hip Hop scene
Almost a sort of spiritual successor to Patti Smith, whom I like quite a lot. PJ Harvey has just about as beautifully raspy a singing voice, as sharp a songwriter, and is just about as engaging an instrumentalist
Listening feels like reliving a series of bittersweet moments that you know you'll never have again. The melodies loop into themselves, like replaying the same moment in your head.
This is something that I think was evident enough WITHOUT song titles like "Youthful Days" and "You Can't Turn Back Time" but that's neither here nor there
