Finally!! An Allie X album that's not a compilation and longer than 8 songs! This feels like Allie's debut, and it was too worth it. She breaks out of the pop pattern she's found herself in the past and has started to craft a signature sound. Tracks like "Fresh Laundry" make callbacks to NAO's "Adore You", and "June Gloom" feels Adam Lambert/Prince-y. She's a got a little more bite this time around, and it's fucking cool.

A nice little surprise EP that comes with an incredible short film/video, La Vita Nuova, is really fun. Nothing groundbreaking but it's nice to see Chris in some new sonic spaces. The EP feels like a nice little sampling of all that she does well: forward-thinking pop music, a stunning ballad, and a few electronic tracks for good measure. The feature from Caroline Polachek is lovely too.

Favorite tracks: "La Vita Nuova", "Mountains (We Met)", "Nada"

Really solid album from Kesha!! Filled with that same frantically joyous energy from her first LPs, with a little more wisdom and consideration for the subtle moments. The big pop songs could use a little more punch (especially, "My Own Dance" which really builds up to fall back into the groove), but "Kinky" and "High Road" are so much fun.

Favorites: "Cowboy Blues", "High Road", "Kinky", "Tonight"

I'm a big Die Antwoord fan, but this album fell short in a lot of ways. Evolution and change is totally amazing, but they're not matching the same energy in any of these tracks. It's nice to get one more album from them before they break up but it feels kind of a like a mixtape. Like Mount Ninji, there's a few really unexpected and quite hilarious guest appearances, but it doesn't feel like a really exciting project. Yo-Landi and Ninja still do what they always do but the production just ... read more

Kid Krow is a really nice debut for Conan, and kind of cements him in this pop/alternative sound with a really nice blend of influences. Nice to see him belt, lose control, and play with his voice. He's definitely up there with the great vocal producers (and has been since "Lookalike" on Sunset Season). The singles still stand out as the best tracks but the rest do a nice job meeting that bar.
