This is one of Kanye’s shortest albums, and also contains one of his bests songs, Ghost Town, as well as Violent Crimes, which is also great.
Unfortunately, I find that a lot of other tracks on this album are often good, some even great, but also quite forgettable, especially in comparison to a lot of Kanye’s discography (which is generally great, so it might sway my opinions. Worst song is All Mine. I think this project is also majorly overshadowed by ... read more
Not sure on my ranking yet, thinking between 85 and 90, but holy did Anthony James go off when producing this album, which is probably the best part of it, but John Michel’s rapping is great as well. I think another album with these two, with more features, and an even more refined concept, could reach a 95 - 100 for me, and or a collective user score of 90+ on here. Excited to see more
Edit: Gave this a 90, because it deserves more than an 85 (I’d actually score it like an 87 or ... read more
While lyrically not the most stunning (for me personally), the soundscapes and production are genuinely incredible and easily make up for most shortcomings. PLEASE listen to this album with the ad free version on YouTube or Spotify premium, it vastly improves the listening experience.
This album has a very different feel from many of Kendrick's previous projects, which is probably what has led to the divisiveness of it online, with some people saying its a 9/10 or 10/10, and some saying it's a 6/10 at best.
Unlike many of Kendrick's previous albums, which have grand storylines and concepts often take years to make, have introspective songs, and tackle big issues and topics, and often feel more like a movie or a play than a music album, this album kind of just ... read more
Please don't dismiss this album just because it is UK rap, if you do you will be missing out.
To me, this album deals with a lot of topics very well, and is very introspective from Dave - which I personally don't hear a lot from the UK scene (which I don't listen to very much currently, to be fair, but most of what I've heard is annoying ass drill music}, with Dave showing himself to be a very proficient rapper in lyricism and storytelling in this project. Lots of themes ... read more
In a more abstract sense, I think thia album really tells a wordless story.I think this Techoblade (RIP) quote sums this prety well:
I think Skyblock, at its core, is the ultimate challenge in resource management. You spawn on a tiny island in an empty universe. All you have is a tree, some supplies, and some dirt to stand on. You have to treasure every dirt block, because if one falls into the void, there's no way to replace it. And as you carefully navigate your absurd circumstance, you ... read more
I'm not going to mention the awful rollout that this album had, because ultimately that shouldn't affect the average listener s experience. I will say though, this didn't affect me as much as other people because I'm not that big of a Carti fan and I don't listen to that much of his music. However, this album CANNOT be made in 5 years, because if this is 5 years of work for Carti, then another drop in like 2 years might just be straight trash with no highlights - and ... read more
