it’s popular for a reason. As basic as it is to say, this is my fav animal collective album. It’s where I feel like the band really focused more on just writing great and complete songs instead of just weird cool sounds for the sake of cool sounds. Some absolute masterpiece tracks here like In The Flowers, My Girls, Summertime Clothes, Daily Routine, and Bluish. Unfortunately I think this album takes a big dip in quality after Bluish but it’s still good and Brother Sport is a ... read more
Wasn’t expecting a freak folk album from Animal Collective, but they did pretty well here. I actually really enjoyed the album throughout and the acoustic guitar playing is beautiful. I also just really like freak folk music like Hop Along Queen Ansleis, early Regina Spektor, and Joanna Newsom, so I was really happy to listen to this.
When I first heard this I was really irritated with it, (especially with how low the vocal mixing is) but I woke up the next day with a better mood and yeah I think this album is pretty good. Some really nice songs here like Alvin Row, Penny Dreadful, and La Rapet. However, I still think the album would be a lot better if the vocals were louder cause they actually sound really nice here and remind me of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
the album loses a lot of momentum after ‘The Purple Bottle’ but the songs there are still pretty good in their own right. It doesn’t pick back up until the final track which is great. Very cool soundscapes here and the vocals performances are good throughout. Also, ‘Did You See The Words’ is a masterpiece!
For Reverend Green is their best song and there are other great ones too but some tracks just don’t melodically stick out to me.
Fucking great. I cannot decide if I like this album or Teen Dream more. Just a completely solid track list throughout. This band was next level from 2010-2012 and the stuff after is good too. Insanely nostalgic record, much like Teen Dream.
Just phenomenal still to this day. Sure some songs kind of blend together in the middle but not one second of this isn’t beautiful.
Honestly it’s kinda overdramatic to me and usually that’s good but it’s kinda lame here. The verse melody isn’t very good also, and the drums at the end are so jarring and out of place. The chorus is good though.
To be honest it’s really only interesting because it’s cool to hear early beach house before they found their complete style. The songs are mostly just alright. Except for Master of None though, they absolutely cooked with that song.
Some amazing tunes here. Where You’ll Find Me Now and Leave Me Alone are genuinely some of their best songs.
making a song about how The Boys show ended is so corny bro….say wallahi.
I was shocked by how little I got from this. Once again I love their style but the melodies and songs are just weak to me. ‘You Lose!’ is awesome though.
Idk why I can’t get into this band more. I love their sound but the songs themselves just don’t do it for me as much. It is still good though and there are some standouts. I’m gonna relisten to the Mercurial World tonight and hopefully that clicks.
I prefer the vibe and style of Visions more but this is just way more consistent in quality.
