This album sounds like it's menacingly walking toward me with a blunt weapon.
Overhated. Every new project an artist releases does not need to be their best yet!
LOOSEN UP, TIME TO DROP, FUCK SHIT UP, DON'T FORGET ABOUT IT
Really exciting. It's unsurprising that their first EP was this great.
Weezer's usual simplicity and notoriously naive-sounding lyrics are suited far better by the baroque and piano rock instrumentation presented OK Human than on most of their other material. Cuomo sounds truly genuine as he reassures you and sings about (seemingly) whatever he wants to.
Almost drowning in its wide and very obvious set of inspirations, Do Hollywood, is saved by the charisma presented in the vocals and instrumentation.
Just as the cover suggests, this album is audacious, in your face, and unforgiving in all the best ways. I just wish the version of Model Village featuring slowthai were included instead.
This is a jazz album. As someone who knows little to nothing about jazz, I will say that I like it a lot.
A natural progression for the band, Sympathy for Life is a funktastic and reverent return after the forced hiatus that has been the COVID-19 pandemic. Parquet Courts celebrate life and humanity while continuing to provide thought-provoking commentary on several pertinent issues ranging from politics to the human condition. It is astounding that so many publications and fans were turned off by this album. It may be slightly less accessible to people that were only ever exposed to "Kids", "Time to Pretend", and "Electric Feel" from their debut, but anyone that had paid any amount of attention to the rest of Oracular Spectacular should have seen this coming! It's weird, wacky, wonderful, and strange in the best possible way.
While this album most definitely shows its age when it comes to production choices, it retains a certain charm and charisma that only David Byrne can truly pull off. The imprint of this album is still very clearly visible in modern music and I wouldn't expect that to change any time soon.
This rock opera is not only one of my favorite albums of all time but also one of the best things to come out of the 2000s. There is very little to say about it that hasn't already been said.
This album gets a lot of undue hate for no conceivable reason. Different and bad are not the same thing! It can most definitely be a little one-note at points, with its unwavering commitment to synth-rock, but it doesn't necessarily detract from all the positives.
Not nearly their best work, but a well thought out LP nonetheless. Love the slightly fuzzier production.
This album is almost perfect. Every time I listen to it, I just want to go back to Dance Yrself Clean and start all over again.
