Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy
90

An absolute joy to listen to every time, the jump in quality from cherry bomb still amazes me, Tyler finally released his full potential on Flower Boy.
Best Tracks: Foreword, Where This Flower Blooms, See You Again, Who Dat Boy, Pothole, Garden Shed, Boredom, I Ain't Got Time!, 911 / Mr Lonely, November, Glitter
Worst Track: Droppin Seeds

Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3
70

Slightly bloated especially after how tight their previous efforts have been but overall this is quality stuff as to be expected from RTJ.
Best Tracks: Down, Legend Has It, Call Ticketron, Hey Kids (Buyame), Thieves! (Screamed the Ghost), Panther Like a Panther (Miracle Mix), Thursday in the Danger Room, Report to the Shareholders/Kill Your Masters
Worst Track: Everybody Stay Calm

Fiddlehead - Between the Richness
80

Full of sincere emotion, poetic lyricism and just fucking explosive noise, Fiddlehead's second record could easily have been a repeat of their debut but Between The Richness is just as compelling. An album that covers as much as humanly possible in 25 minutes, not a second is wasted and the guitar and drum work in particular is stellar. Can't recommend this band and this album enough, especially for fans of early Basement, Cloud Nothings, Title Fight etc
Best Tracks: Grief Motif, The Years, ... read more

Mannequin Pussy - Patience
70

Mannequin Pussy continue to improve on their third LP, with a much more varied and cohesive record that still packs a punch.
Best Tracks: Patience, Drunk II, Who Are You, F.U.C.A.W., In Love Again
Worst Track: Clams

Mannequin Pussy - Perfect
70

Solid EP overall but bumped up by Control which is one of my favourite songs so far this year.
Best Tracks: Control, Perfect, To Lose You
Worst Track: Darling

Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 2
80

A logical next step after their impressive debut, RTJ bring harder beats, even better lyrics and up the tempo on their sophomore record. That opening track run is explosive and it is a credit to el-p and killer mike how they manage to not lose steam and keep up the impact throughout the record.
Best Tracks: Jeoprady, Oh My Darling Don't Cry, Blockbuster Night Pt.1, Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck), Lie, Cheat, Steal, Early, All Due Respect, Love Again (Akinyele Back), Angel Duster

St. Vincent - Daddy's Home
50

i will definitely come back to this once i am more familiar with St Vincent's other albums but i have listened to her before and never really connected with her music. This album is no different, i like some of the songs but it is all just a bit vague and forgettable unfortunately.
Best Tracks: Live In The Dream, Down, Somebody Like Me
Worst Track: The Laughing Man

Foals - Holy Fire
90

Been one of my favourite albums since it's release and was my introduction to Foals who became one of my favourite bands. I would say the rest of their albums have all lost a bit of my love to varying degrees but Holy fire remains their best work for me.
Best Tracks: Inhaler, My Number, Bad Habit, Everytime, Late Night, Out of the Woods, Milk & Black Spiders, Providence, Moon
Worst Track: Stepson( Still a very good song)

DRAM - Shelley FKA DRAM
70

Pleasantly surprised by this one and actually prefer this new sound for shelley, very cohesive record but no two songs sound too similar and a good use of features bar Erykah Badu as her verse seems very shoehorned in with no other interactio with shelley throughout the song despite shelley talking about how much he loves duets at the start of the track. Anyway the other duets are stunning especially The Lay Down. Some tracks aren't super memorable but a very enjoyable and replayable ... read more

Iceage - Seek Shelter
50

Wasn't sure what to make of this at first and hoped it would grow on me and maybe it will but at the moment too many of the tracks feel monotonous and stay the same throughout. Of course, this has been iceage's style for their whole career but it worked on their first two albums because the songs were punchier and shorter or on PITFOL the song concepts were simply way more interesting. They have really gone for this "post-britpop" genre and while i appreciate their ambition this one ... read more

Iceage - You're Nothing
70

A definite improvement from their debut, iceage evolve their sound and these songs are much more memorable whilst still having the same raw power.
Favourite Tracks: Coalition, Burning Hand, Morals, Wound Hearts, It Might Hit First, You're Nothing
Worst Track: In Haze

Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels
70

Solid debut with excellent production and lyrics/performances from both el-p and killer mike. My main issue is sometimes it feels more like an extended freestyle than an album but they definitely improved in that department on their later records.
Favourite tracks: Run The Jewels, Banana Clipper, DDFH, Sea Legs, No Come Down, A Christmas Fucking Miracle
Worst Track: Twin Hype Back

Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino
70

Still one of the strangest directions a band has gone in and considering how much i hated AM this was a massive improvement. It is definitely the most fun arctic monkeys have sounded since their first two albums and even though there are a few weak tracks here there is also some of my favourite artic monkeys songs such as star treatment and the ultracheese. Also i actually think she looks like fun is one of the best songs here sorry.
Best Tracks: Star Treatment, One Point Perspective, American ... read more

Iceage - New Brigade
60

Solid post-punk debut just let down by some weaker tracks and some tracks not standing out but the potential was clear on their debut.
Best Tracks: White Rune, Remember, Broken Bone, Collapse, You're Blessed
Worst Track: Rotting Heights

Squid - Bright Green Field
70

Not everything comes off and some tracks aren't fully realized but the ones that are make up for that many times over as tracks such as "Narrator" or "Paddling" are colossal. The exciting thing about this album is that squid are definitely capable of even better and they are well on track to get there.
Best Tracks: Narrator, Paddling, 2010, Peel St., Pamphlets
Worst Track: G.S.K.

Aldous Harding - Designer
80

Absolutely spellbinding record that is endlessly fascinating and one of the most underrated albums of 2019.
Best Tracks: Fixture Picture, Zoo Eyes, Treasure, The Barrel, Damn, Weight of the Planets, Heaven Is Empty
Worst Track: Pilot

Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life
80

Rare sophomore album that neither drastically improves or declines compared to the band's debut, an album in a similar vain to My Love Is Cool, this album covers a variety of styles and genres in one cohesive package. It is impressive Wolf Alice have managed to do this twice now and come away with a fairly consistent batch of songs and one could argue the experimentation goes further than their debut even if they lose some of the bigger moments in the process. They definitely make up for it ... read more

The Alchemist - This Thing Of Ours
70

Solid alchemist project, nothing groundbreaking from him but alchemist on solid form is still better than most, verses are all good with earl being the standout as usual.
Best Tracks: Nobles, Loose Change
Worst Track: TV Dinners

Porter Robinson - Nurture
70

Couple of duds but overall a really fun album considering the runtime, and some of the best songs are excellent.
Best Tracks: Look At The Sky, Wind Tempos, Musician, dullscythe, Something Comforting, Mirror, Unfold
Worst Track: Blossom
