Recommendation from my buddy (I got him to listen to Fragile by Yes for this!)
Solid vibe, though I do which it changed up a bit more. Children and One & One are generational tracks though.
In my original review of this one, I said to give me a few more listens. I have listened a few more times. I love this! Not to say I don't have problems with it, but what is here I quite like.
To talk a little on my problems with it first, this is still a story based double album. A lot of these songs only really work as a whole of the project, and when the project is 90 minutes, I'll either not listen to it a ton, even if I do like it, or listen to it a ton, and then realize I ... read more
This one is fun. I respect the experimentation so much here, and Why is probably my favorite song on this or John’s album, even if as I whole I prefer that album for consistency.
This album is neat because John just kinda lets everything out on these songs
I know on relisten I’ll bump it up from a 99 to 100, but on a first listen this is beautiful.
As-Another Star might be the best back to back tracks on any album.
Note to self: prog rock double albums are a different beast. This also needs a lot of listens
I don’t really vibe with the last 2 tracks as much, but this is a very fun album
I really do like a lot of this one, I just don’t find myself loving it. On the first side, I think the first 2 tracks are OK, and I do really enjoy the last two a lot.
Supper’s Ready is interesting. It is like Close to the Edge, Atom Heart Mother, and Echoes in that it’s a 20+ minute piece in multiple parts that (almost! I know Horizons exists!) the whole side of the album. But I feel like that while the track is consistently good, it just doesn’t reach the level of ... read more
My old review of this album read as follows: “ Is it a little overrated? Of course. Is it a great rock album? Of course.”
Now here’s the thing: This album isn’t overrated, it is actually perfect. I think what I held against it was my preference for the band’s next 2 albums.
I don’t really review soundtracks ever but this is one of my favorites
It’s prog o’clock gentlemen! Thank you to @frogofprog for telling me this is a good place to start with Genesis.
While not my favorite prog (I’ve prefer the works of Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd that I’ve heard), Genesis has a really nice sound to them. My real only problem with this album is the 3 tracks I didn’t really dig: the opener starts great but goes on too long, More Fool Me feels a bit repetitive, especially with it coming after Firth of Fifth, and ... read more
On par with Fragile for me. Close to the Edge is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard, but I think the second and 3rd track are progressively weaker.
“The government and war suck dick, anyways here’s 28 of the best guitar solos you’ve ever heard”
This is just a nice vibe. My only real complaint is that the album stays in its lane, but it is a very, very nice lane, so why should it?
The lack of bass kills this one. The songs just don’t feel as dynamic as the ones on MOP. But they actually are quite good again, although I think the title track and Eye are a bit overlong.
Surprise! I actually am writing a review for this album. I thought on the Metallica deep dive I knew what I thought of this one and was listening because it’s simply just that good.
I mean yeah but like I bumped this up to an 100 from a 95. Why? Damage, Inc. is really fun. I didn’t know how to have fun when I reviewed it I guess. Anyways best track here is Disposable Heroes, which is probably my favorite Metallica track. Awesome album.
