Lost In Kyiv - Rupture
72

The band should have put Loïc Rossetti on all the songs, his voice fits perfectly.

As for the album itself, it presents as a good, solid mix of post-rock, post-metal, appropriate electronics, and even rare post-black metal elements. Rupture gave me what I wanted from it. Respect.

FAVORITE: Prison of Mind, But You Don't Care, Another End is Possible.

Lost In Kyiv - Nuit Noire
65

The spoken word was strange, even cringe, and would have been better presented in a more neutral, less dramatic tone. So, yep, I would like to find an instrumental version. But overall I love the concept.

The instrumental is good, the combination of post-rock with post-metal/sludge metal riffs is solid. "Nuit Noire" is the best track on the album, it's a shame the others aren't as good.

Bottom line: this album could have been a bright example of good post-rock, but strange ... read more

MORGENSHTERN - ALISHER
45

You may not believe Alisher's remorse. However, after all the dirt MORGENSTERN released before, this EP feels like a breath of fresh air. Yes, the album is weak for the genre, I admit. But for Alisher, it's a breakthrough.

FAVORITE: ПУСТОЙ ВОКЗАЛ, АНТИДЕПРЕССАНТЫ.

Wolves At The Gate - Captors
70

Captors surprised me by straightforward Christian lyrics. You can't help but notice band's beliefs here. Otherwise this record is decent work.

FAVORITE: Awaken, The Harvest, Step Out To The Water, Safeguards.

Wolves At The Gate - Types & Shadows
66

The band's sound changed slightly and the lyrics became less direct. While the previous VxV was a kind of obvious preachcore, Types & Shadows approached Christian issues from a different angle.

In my opinion the guys are better at calm post-rock moments, but for some reason they try to complicate the perception of the songs with the same type of “complicated” structures.

Not a bad record, technically it's an average post-hardcore/metalcore album.

Wolves At The Gate - VxV
65

Why is it that when bands sing about anarchy, hatred and militant atheism no one raises any questions, but when someone delivers direct Christian messages most people get annoyed? Hypocrites.

VxV itself isn't bad, if a bit monotonous; it could have been much better. But overall, it's OK.

FAVORITE: Dust to Dust, Wake Up.

Wolves At The Gate - Eclipse
65

It's not like WATG ever sounded anything special before, but with this album the guys became one of the typical hardcore bands.

Eclipse isn't bad (maybe even good), but there are a lot of similar albums and I just found it boring to listen to.

FAVORITE: History, Face to Face.

Our Mirage - Unseen Relations
60

On this album the band continued to do the same things like on their debut, but didn't reach the same level.

Perhaps it's just my opinion, but Our Mirage have lost their shape here. Unseen Relations is duller and weaker than its predecessor, and feels like a mid-of-the-mids in its genre.

FAVORITE: Unseen, My Last Day.

Our Mirage - Lifeline
66

Debut LP by Our Mirage.
A very balanced decent record. You won't find anything special here, cause all the songs written by the same formula, but you won't be disappointed either.

The band's best album, in my opinion.
Then it only gets worse release by release...

FAVORITE: December, Lost.

Elevation Worship - There Is a Cloud
87

This band has better records, but There Is A Cloud is still my favorite worship album of all time ☁️

Hands (USA) - Give Me Rest
89

This album needs to be experienced.
It's hard to fully appreciate it in one listen, at least I didn't. It's amazing how, as I listened to it, my opinion of Give Me Rest changed from "nah, boring, low quality, not for me" to "wow, it's great, I love it". Essentially, the album is one long prayer of an internally suffering person, broken into songs.

I've seen recordings of their live performances, and they're very powerful.

Hanry - What Came From Silence
70

Hanry has grown, the quality is top notch.

The influence of BRUIT≤ is obvious, and it’s not surprising, since both bands are signed to the same label and perform on the same French scene. But I like the direction Hanry is moving in, and I hope the guys will find their own identical sound in the future.

FAVORITE: Noise Drowns Out, Phantom Rush.

I Promised the World - I Promised the World
69

Did you feel this warm feeling while listening?

I Promised The World is a kind of attempt to revive the prime emocore of the 2000s, beloved by millennials. The album is great and I have nothing against it, I even like it.

P.s. The last song reminds me of Architects from the Hollow Crown/The Here & Now era.

FAVORITE: Emerald Waltz, A Pure Expression.

Ambedo - I Am Now Where I Was
67

Not a bad debut, there's something to it.

Honestly, the 2nd track ruined the whole experience of the release for me, otherwise the rating would have been 5-7 points higher.

But overall, I Am Now Where I Was is a good record, and I hope the author creates something more interesting in the future.

FAVORITE: Returning Silence.

Merzbow - Pulse Demon
6

It works like brainwashing.
There's really something to it, and I think I understand people who are fans of the genre. Nevertheless, Pulse Demon remains an extremely difficult to digest record that leaves your head splitting.

Haste The Day - Dissenter
68

It's great that the band is back.
Haste the Day didn't create anything new or magnificent this time, but they didn't disappoint either. Dissenter is a standard, decent metalcore album.

FAVORITE: Teeth, Burn, Gnasher.

Oh Hiroshima - Oscillation
56

Oscillation feels deeper and more thoughtful than its predecessor, but that makes it even worse.

There are some great ideas that could have been developed in a different, more interesting way. But here, as on the previous album, the band chooses the path of primitive, banal, and lifeless sketches. This is the type of post-rock where from the very first seconds of the song it is already obvious how it will develop and how it will end. Knowing everything in advance creates a sense of disgust, ... read more

Hammock - The Second Coming Was a Moonrise
61

It's better to do nothing than to release a mediocre album.

Honestly, I enjoyed the previous Nevertheless more. Yes, the work is well done, beautifully mixing clean electric guitars, electronic drums and patterns, abstract lyrics and ambient, and all of this is skillfully processed with various reverbs. But you know what, the album lacks something that could really grab your attention. "The Second Coming..." is technically good, but internally weak. The record simply ... read more

Oh Hiroshima - In Silence We Yearn
63

I decided to listen In Silence We Yearn because it's quite famous in the post-rock scene.

You know what, it wasn't exactly wow. Yeah, it's a decent, well-made, high-quality piece of work, but nothing more. Almost nothing is remembered after listening and for the most part the music flies through ears without catching the attention. There are more interesting records in the genre.

FAVORITE: Ellipse, Aria.

Aldebrand the Reverberant - Høuse øf Hørøløgue
54

It was the first dark ambient record that I found listenable!

Really like the concept of the album and the project as a whole. Perhaps it's the story behind this release that makes it feel so special and stand out. Author, don't abandon the idea, it's incredible!

So why such a low rating? Let me explain. It's chaotic and difficult to digest. The interesting thing is that in my mind I understand that the album is incredibly good in its genre, and at the same time, some ... read more
