Pretty good debut album by Everything About Eve from England. The style is something which I would describe as gothic folk rock - or folk gothic rock. Nevertheless I prefer the slower, quieter songs such as the hit single "Martha's Harour" and in particular "Never Promise (Anyone Forever)" - and I like the voice of Julianne Regan very much.
Black and Blue is the thirteenth album of the Rolling Stones. What a mix: listen to the first four tracks: funky, rocky, reggea, ballad? The first two attempts are pretty ok, the reggea feels like a flaw, the ballad "Memory Motel" is a soulful rock ballad and - beyond the outstanding "Fool to Cry", my second highlight of Black and Blue. Because of the better tracks here the album is certainly not the best Stones album ever, but nevertheless a good one and worth to be part ... read more
When the debut album of Klaatu was published in 1976 there was a rumour that The Beatles where the really band behind the Klaatu-Sun. Listen to the full album my opinioinn is: The first song is overwhelming, the second promising, but everything else rather disappointing, but the last song makes good for it. OK, I forgot "Sub-Rosa Subway", also a nice one with beatlesque vocals (could be Paul, couldn't it?).
Wonderful, typical for the 70th, smooth-soul-disco album created as a journey through four seasans from spring to spring and therefore with an appropriate final song: "Spring Reprise". Four Sessons make me think that Donna Summeris something like the Queen of Disco in the 70th. The following output, in paritcular the 79 album Bad Girl would proof that three years later, imo.
Frankie Cosmos' sixth studio album presents a collection of 17 pleasureable pop songs - almost only pop miniatures. I'm a bit ambivalent because of the mainly shortness of the single tracks. Is ist nice to listen to a larger number of single songs or are there not some songs I would wish there wold last a bit longer? In general I like both, the voice and vocals of band leader Greta Kline and the appropriate accompany by the music and musicions of her band. If you would get a first ... read more
Throbbing Gristles' (Genesis P-Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Peter Christopherson and Chris Carter) debut album is one of the most weird but extremely important albums I've ever listened to. The Second Annual Report is a radical introduction into industrial music.
F***ing good blues rock album, adorned with some psychedelic splashes. Beside the best reknown title song I recommend to listen to „The Window“ and „Take the Money and Run“.
What a debut! Yeah, welcome Debbie with her band Blondie in my musical world when I was a fifteen year old teenager. Therefore my rating will be biased because of romantic thoughts and beautiful memories. Nevertheless Blondie's eponymous album was a fresh powerful pop album which lacks something to compare at that times. In addition, the rather slow songs such as "In the Flesh" were able to catch teenies at that times.
Between nine other, mainly mediocre songs, "White Hot" stands out, in general rather little for a full album. Nevertheless Red Rider's Don't Fight offers 38 minutes of quite well and pleasant pop rock appropriate for people who like this kind of music (Bon Jovi or something). Please notice the original track order is different to the one on the right (the tracklist on the right is from a 2010 CD reissue).
The second Genesis album after the departure of Peter Gabriel, and the second in the year 1976, like the previous album A Trick of the Trail with lead vocals by drummer Phil Collins, who became now the vocalist of the band, showed first hints which musical path Genesis was going to take. Not instanteneously with the opener "Eleventh Earl of Mar", and only a little, little bit with the second track "One for the Vine" (watch the sweet tunes but still a really stirring ... read more
Very close to the predecessor A Night At The Opera, concerning title (Marx Brothers films), concept and musical ambition - and almost as great as the legendary album from 1975, with contributions from all band members (songs, vocals). Therefore A Day At The Races is one of my favourite albums of one of my favourite bands from the 70th, Queen. In addition A Day At The Races contents the wonderful song "Sombody to Love", enough reasons to possess the album in my vinyl collection.
The Smith's third album contents some of their greatest songs such as "Bigmouth Srikes Again", "Cemetry Gates" or "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out". In general, the Queen is Dead is one of the best jangle pop albums ever. Unfortunately the bands light went out yet when their fourth album was published in September 1987. What a pity! But because of the differences between Morrissey and Johnny Marr.
The "Colour of Spring" is the enchanting overture (or prelude) to the overwhelming Talki Talk albums "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock", which made the band from London to one of the best in the late 80th / early 90th. The progress of the band from radio friendly pop music such as "It's My Life" (nevertheless the title song was a almost a 80th hymn) to art rock / post rock via progressive pop and art pop is distinctive perceptible on this ... read more
The first album of Genesis after the departure of Peter Gabriel, and the best Genesis album after that happening. Phil Collins, who didn't intent to be the successor of lead vocalist Peter, took place on the microphone because the searching for a new appropriate singer was unsuccessfull. His first attempt with the great song "Squonk" was convincing and theneforward the drummer become also lead vocalist. For my taste the seventh Genesis album "A Trick of the Tail" is ... read more
"Hurricane" is an exceptional song and demonstrates Bob Dylans outstanding singer-songwriter abilities. Everything else on the album cannot live up with this 100 percent song, but offers further great songs of the mastermind, such as "Mozambique", "Isis" or the appropriate final song of the album "Sara". In particular side one of the vinyl with further songs such as "One More Cup of Coffee" is overwhelming.
Take care: Listen to this sophisiticated and elaborated eight songs, adorned and finalised with "Flight", will kidnap you into another world where you are probably will feel like "Fogwalking".
Welcome to. the 80th, Paul. 45 years ago the Beatle created one of his most weird works. McCatrney II contents a collection of eleven songs, seeming to come from different musical worlds. The genre mix is incredible and sounds like a compilation of five different albums. Nevertheless it makes fun to listen to it and "Coming Up" is a burner.
