By far their greatest album, and genuinely one of the best and most underrated albums of the 2000s. Songs like "We Invent You" and "Look A Ghost" start off the album with a very heavy departure from the sort of sound they've cultivated up until now, with following tracks bringing it back in a little bit. For me, however, the album really begins to fire on all cylinders during "Terminus", where the string arrangements over the band create what is one of the most ... read more
This one goes a lot harder than it has any right to, and feels like a departure from the sort of noise rock sound they've had up until now. "Corpse Pose" may arguably be their defining song and probably the best song to show to someone who has no clue who Unwound is. The rest of the album is great, with some moments here and there that aren't necessarily my favorites but are still bolstered by the amazing closing track.
Favorite tracks: Message Received, Corpse Pose, Lady Elect, For ... read more
It's alright as an album, it is technically their actual debut album but it feels like they lack any sort of identity within a lot of the tracks, which isn't helped by how they all blending a little too much. Again, I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people who can really buy into the sound of this album.
This one has a great start to it, as "New Energy" and "Demolished are by far some of the best openers they've had so far. It does have a bit of a lull in the middle, but definitely picks up until Swans. After that, it devolves into drone, feedback, and three tracks of an old loop. Not necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but I'm sure it has its defenders.
This one follows through with the energy and noise of their debut "Fake Train", but it is a whole lot more polished and refined in both the songwriting and the production. It's much more cohesive as an album and the last four tracks of this album cement themselves as some of their best in Unwound's discography.
Favorite songs: Entirely Different Matters, All Souls Day, Arboretum, Friction Friction
I genuinely love this album quite a lot, and it was the gateway into the rest of Unwound's incredible discography. There's something so incredibly raw and emotional about this album that only seems to belong here, and can't be found in much of their later material. Great great album.
Favorite songs: Dragnalus, Nervous Energy, Valentine Card/Kantina/Were, Are, and Was or Is, Honourosis.
This really does feel like a bit of a response to Honeybear, and what a mellow response it was.
Kali Uchis really shines as a singer on this record, even if she kind of sounds the same through out it. Songs like Body Language and After the Storm really showcase the amazing production and instrumentation on this album, even with some lyrically awkward tracks such as Tyrant and Reykon's feature on Nuestro Planeta.
A great record about self-identity and current politics in America. Even if it has weak spots scattered through out, the overall solid track listing and great production really brings this record to life.
This album only adds on to the beautiful sadness that came from Crow, except with signs of relief and acceptance
DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING AGAINST DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGS
Words can't describe how much I love this album. Possibly the best produced album of the year, with songs like TSLAMP and Little Dark Age sounding absolutely beautiful and colorful.
This album absolutely was worth all of the worth and hype that was brought with it, Kanye's production on the album is well done and really adds to all of the messages and lyrical themes brought in this album. Both Kanye and Cudi's vocal performances complement the production beautifully and the features on this album are just the cherry on top of what is already a perfect album.
