Compared to their debut, this album is sanitised and watered down. It's practically a trend for lots of bands with a similar sound to this (Narrow Head, I'm looking at you) to have killer debuts, then gradually get softer and worse in quality. Fleshwater haven't deviated from this trend.
In their attempts to differentiate 2000 from their debut, they made a more boring, and worse paced album.
The Fleshwater style wasn't built for tracks longer than two minutes, apparently.
Wow, I really wasn't expecting something so heavy from these guys, pleasantly surprised!! Couldn't be more hyped for the album
I've never listened to an album as much in a single month as I have Monarch of Monsters. Without a shadow of a doubt, this is my AOTY. (Survivor's Guilt for SOTY)
This album feels very much like a hidden ending to the "Kiss Kiss Trilogy", maintaining much of the spontaneity and instrumental variety seen throughout Kiss Kiss' two albums. However, it suffers from Benash's vocals sounding a little... bored, like he's not enjoying his time on this album. I can't really blame him for that, If I released two masterpieces that went completely unappreciated I'd probably be pretty sick of making music too.
the greatest left turn in music history
EDIT: ( 74 → 88 )
Oh my god this is actually really good?
"Keep churning out those hits, Till it's all the same old shit"
Over 20 years ago, Cursive were able to accurately predict where they'd be in the current day. It's quite a shame really, they used to make genre-defining music in their prime and now it's just, well.. the same old shit.
I would say that the Cello carries this album, but every element works so perfectly together that the addition of such an incredibly unique instrument for a Rock album only stands to improve on what was already near perfection.
(84 → 91)
The greatness of this album in tracks such as Obstacle 1, The New and Untitled is pretty heavily juxtaposed by its mediocrity in tracks like Roland and Hands Away. But my god, the highs are so monumentally high. True cream of the crop shit right here, it doesn't get much better anywhere else.
While it's almost completely dependent on Slint as an influence, Tragedy stands on its own as an excellent album with quite interesting songwriting. Incredibly underrated
It's honestly impressive how far Strangelight towers above the rest of this mediocre album
Completely skippable except for Feathers And Furs. Oh my god, what a magnificent song.
This is the kind of shit I wish I stumbled upon more often.
On paper, it shouldn't work. Big-Band Swing Jazz-Metal? Whose idea was this?
But it does work. Oh so well. It's a gimmick so stupid but so incredibly well executed.
While it doesn't have the nuances or angst that made TDAG so classic, Brand New didn't flop at all with this follow-up. Daisy is quite straightforward but not to a fault, and the Post-Hardcore and Indie Rock elements complement each other extremely well. I might just be a huge sucker for that exact genre fusion, but this album deserves far more praise than it gets.
The first hip hop album I can genuinely say I enjoyed listening to.
One of the more unfortunately underrated albums of the year so far, those bots clearly didn't help lol
Tops: Titled, I'm the Other Woman, Doubts of the Day
