Under the Radar

The band’s latest album, Devourer, finds Cursive back on an outside label, Run for Cover, and the album is a true tour de force.

Dork
It’s rare for bands to still find themselves with important stuff to say when it comes to album number 10, but Cursive’s dogmatic refusal to be pigeonholed and their frequently telling and prescient lyrics make them just as important as ever.

Spectrum Culture

Devourer is an angry little sucker, grown out of the rugged soil of a world on fire, and while Kasher once waxed poetic about how sucky life was, here, he seems fucking terrified by it.

I cant help but get the vibe, especially after listening to all of their albums, including many Good Life albums, that they really were pushing themselves more stylistically than they have in at least a few album cycles. The general sound of this album is different from past releases with a slick production, occasionally reminiscent of Ugly Organ. However, some tracks simply don't land, just feel a little off for some reason.
