The band’s latest album, Devourer, finds Cursive back on an outside label, Run for Cover, and the album is a true tour de force.
Devourer is an angry little sucker, grown out of the rugged soil of a world on fire, and while Kasher once waxed poetic about how sucky life was, here, he seems fucking terrified by it.
Devourer‘s songs are the best Cursive have released since 2003, balancing a noisy attack and withering lyrics with some of their prettiest, accessible tracks.
it's so funny how the animated cover for this is just the background getting bigger and smaller. it's not that it's bad, i just thought there'd be more (literally my view of the record)

I cant help but get the vibe, especially after listening to all of their albums, including many Good Life albums, that they really were pushing themselves more stylistically than they have in at least a few album cycles. The general sound of this album is different from past releases with a slick production, occasionally reminiscent of Ugly Organ. However, some tracks simply don't land, just feel a little off for some reason.
