I refused to listen to this album for years on principle - it's been made more and more clear over time that a lot of what the Sex Pistols did for provocation was an act, except in the case of Sid Vicious who genuinely was just a thuggish meathead. I had also heard God Save the Queen and Anarchy in the UK (mostly the latter) a fair amount already, and neither song compelled me to seek out this album in full.
But I did tell myself I'd give this album a chance someday, because my enthusiasm for ... read more
Apparently Ed is the only guitarist (excluding bass) on this album, and the psychedelic jamming on the final track might be the first time that we've truly heard him RIP
The use of orchestral strings, especially on the title track, is lovely too - a somewhat instrumentally diverse album, but a cohesive one.
Earth felt more like he was just testing the waters, just challenging himself to finally put his own music out there. This time, it sounds like he fully set out to make an album ... read more
Teens of Denial (Taylor's Version)
So they dubbed over the profane lines in most songs while leaving the rest of the original vocal as is - not a major issue in and of itself to me. But then Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales has entirely re-recorded vocals, even though only two of its lines were changed? At that point, why not just re-record the vocals for every song?
This album's biggest sin is just being kind of unneccesary - even the update of DD/KW isn't BAD per se, it just ... read more
Actually a vast improvement over the previous single for me - nice atmospheric guitars and a more inspired sense of melody overall. That includes the vocals, which probably would have been better without Autotune buuuut it is what it is.
I guess Reality Awaits might have Autotuned Julian for the entire thing... worst Strokes album incoming? Probably. But I'm still hopeful for a good album.
Spongebob laugh ahh chorus
Sounds like it was thrown together in an hour, which isn't necessarily a bad thing to me, but my interest in the fuzzy instrumental was largely undone by the song being less than 2 minutes long. Also the vocals are an earworm but yeah, not sure how I feel about them.
I would be interested to hear her pursue this musical direction further but I hope this is is just meant to be a warm-up, rather than a proper lead single for a whole new album
I don't get how people can glaze The New Abnormal while also shitting on this album, where a bunch of tracks feel like a dry run for the next album haha
My only substantial critique is that it comes off more like a collection of songs cobbled together than a cohesive album, but when some of those songs happen to be quite awesome, that doesn't really matter in the end.
This album is based, fuck the haters
