A heartwarming album. What it lacks in ambition it makes up for with solid songwriting and an interesting if mellow sonic pallet.
Dissident Blue takes a few tracks to get you to tune into its frequency, but when it does it's a fun if messy listen.
This album just radiates the summery vibes you need to get through the winter. All in all, a solidly good time all the way through.
The light of a moon older than life itself shines through the trees that were already there when your grandparents were born and will still be there when your grandchildren die. There are thousands of them around you, in this small patch of forest in a great big world. They will grow taller and taller for generations to come until one day they'll fall. The best King Gizzard album since Nonagon Infinity
From the opening moments of 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart' it becomes apparent just how creative this album is. From the off-kilter production to Jeff Tweedy's poetry experiments, it's just so perfectly odd but touching.

Listening to this album again and knowing what inspired it, it hits even harder than before.

There's music that feels like ascending to heaven. There's music that feels like descending to hell. Then there's music that feels like you're stuck in purgatory, being violently torn between the two sides as angels and demons fight over your soul, stretching it till it is at the point of collapse.
That, to me, is what The Lamb as Effigy is.
Album of the year for sure. Such a unique meshing of different styles that all come together so seamlessly to support Jane Remover's gripping lyricism.
I honestly forgot how good Wilbur was at making sad boy anthems. Is he perfect at it? No, but the roughness of this album is part of its charm. Still, I can't help myself from describing it as "The Glow, Pt. 2 from Wish".
It might not have highlights like '21st Schizoid Man', but overall Red is the superior album. It's so tight and riveting all the way through, and except for maybe the first couple of minutes of 'Providence' it never loses me. This is King Crimson showing that they can pack a punch and damn do they punch hard!
