To me, the absolute peak of late 80s melodic hardcore. There’s suffer, and then there’s everything else. BR may have had more conceptual records later down the line, but this record stands as just a ferocious half hour of driving guitars, innovative-for-the-time lyrics and tight packaging. There’s a reason so many bands call this album the blueprint.
The fact they didn't end this album with Yesterday is still a crime 59 years later
Underrated in their catalog. Their most consistent record pre Rubber Soul
The thing that's so great about The Chronic is that it's just consistent. Not a ton of filler, a vibe throughout, there's no point after you start playing the record you want to stop. It's the reason it's lasted this long
Picked this up at the record store for $7 solely cause I wanted a copy of le freak. Rest of the album is sick, too. If you’re into disco check this one out
Fucking love this record. Didn’t really get into the project as a whole on first listen, but as the years have passed and I kept coming back to some of these tracks, I tried the record again the second time around and holy moly i got it. Trap music that doesn’t sound boring or formulaic is quite an achievement
Early 80s hardcore to a tee. Biting social critique, slam-your-face-into-a-brick-wall riffs and shitty production. What else could you want?
Enjoyed this. Not the most groundbreaking, thought provoking or innovative of all time, but it’s fun to listen to and that’s all that matters to me
I know it isn’t considered canon, but for listeners in the US, to me this album’s track list really feels like a perfect encapsulation of early Beatles. I think out of their capitol albums this one stands the tallest as the biggest out of canon triumph
My favorite pop album of the year so far. Raw, honest, unfiltered. Love that it’s a quick 40 minutes or so and never overstays its welcome or feels long winded. This is what pop music should sound like and how pop records should be constructed
I have a love/hate relationship with this record. I think the first half is very good, Albini's production really helps give a true edge to this album, but I just can't get over how some of it sounds almost TOO grungy, like Milk It and Tourette's. Even still though, I think it's a perfect follow up and deserves praise
An emotional scream of pain, anguish and eternal malaise. Queens' magnum opus.
If "Mother" wasn't on this record, it'd be a 10. Every other song is a killer. Side B is legendary.
