Black Life, Red Planet is a very versatile dance album, combining areas of Jungle, Breakstep, Neo Psychedelia and even some maths music to create a pretty versatile selection of tracks. It's quite mellow in areas, feeling more retrospective than full-on but it's a good time. Worth a listen 👍
METZ fifth album is a raw alt-rock affair. The production is simple, as is a lot of the music but it's still very enjoyable. A lot of the guitar work is very reminiscent of mid-2000s alt-rock and that's a vibe I'm definitely here for. Some songs do overstay their welcome a bit, coming back in when they really should have finished, but that didn't stop this album from being a fun listen
I don't think there are enough positives to say about this album. It's truly extraordinary and it's impossible for me to imagine how it must've been to experience this album for the first time in 1972. The quality of production and the techniques on display are so far ahead of their time, it's crazy.
Musically, Octopus has elements of classic rock but is mainly a baroque-inspired prog rock affair. It's incredibly unique to Gentle Giant and it's a vibe that I'm all here for. It's not a very ... read more
What an experience. Se Beuno is an atmospheric mixture of DnB, Indietronica, and Jungle culminating in a varied and emotional listening experience. There are some super chill moments and there are some knuckle-whitening moments. Throughout it's 50-minute duration, expect the unexpected and, above all, just enjoy it. I haven't found an album that sounds quite like it
A very fun and pretty experimental jungle/DnB album. Some of these experiments work better than others but overall it's a pretty fun experience with some very good tracks, especially near the end of the album. It's short and sweet but definitely worth a go
An amazing selection of jazz to rock any audio system, even 65+ after initial release. Virtuosic playing and superb production; it's a great listen!
An extremely strong debut album from the Leeds four piece. It's a very good entry point for any contemporary rock fans wanting to get into something a bit more artsy. Catchy hooks, amazing vocal work both lyrically and performatively and a very versatile tracklisting. It's quirky, thought-provoking and evocative, just as any English-as-fuck art rock album should be
Megaeth have this aura of cheese around them that can put you off on a first listen but after many more listens, it's kind of wondering and it's definitely an amazing experience. Just don't listen to the remixes, they really suck
It's hard to put into words how good this album is. It's absolutely ferocious, but haunting beautiful at the same time. Chugs are relentless, vocals are amazing, even the drums are just superb. There's not a single bad word that can be said about this album.
Gizzard's heaviest 100% psych experience with a crazy concept to match. It's an insane experience and one that definitely grows as you appreciate the nods to other KGLW albums. Just an amazing album all round
A fun glam rock experience that doesn't take itself too seriously. It may not be as ground-breaking as their previous album but it's definitely a good follower
Whilst almost every track was an absolute bop and a joy to listen to, there is a lack of cohesion, both thematically, and musically. The production varies wildly from track to track and it just tosses me around a bit too much. Each track is amazing fun on their own and never take themselves too seriously but I can't imagine myself revisiting this album in its totality.
A superb mix of 80s/90s pop and R&B to create a dynamic and versatile debut album. Brilliant, synths, awesome harmonies and (for the most part) great production. Worth a go for anyone that wants to know what a modern day art-pop-inspired Whitney Houston might sound like
There's definitely a lot to love about this album. It's packed with great indie folk songs with lovely guitars and sometimes haunting vocal passages and harmonies. However, Older is not without it's flaws. Some tracks are just too short and come out as nothing-burgers, finishing before they really start. And then there's the production. When the songs are soft, they sound superb, but when they get going they sound trash. Boomy drums, over compressed mastering- t's all a bit off a mess. Overall, ... read more
Gray is more than happy to wear his influences on his sleeve and sometimes that doesn't help him. However, there are a few songs that are just really catchy, usually when he's doing something that's just a bit different to just synthpop. Overall, it's a pretty good time
A pretty good debut from FPPEHT. The chords and riffs are catchy and I really love that violin. Guitar tones are fuzzy and raw, drums and bass are simple but effective. The main issue is the vocals which are a mixed bag. The production is not good on the first track and I sometimes feel like they just scream for the sake of it. Something that is luckily tamed at least a little bit on later releases
