Nekrogoblikon - Welcome to Bonkers
81

Nekrogoblikon's best full-length album to date. Catchy choruses, great screams. Just very good overall

Nekrogoblikon - Heavy Meta
80

Varied and fun melodic death metal

Nekrogoblikon - power
88

Nekrogoblikon's best work. It's definitely the perfect combination of Goblin and metal for me. Powercore in particular is absolutely immense

Ihsahn - IHSAHN
65

A fun but ultimately underwhelming experience. I can't help but feel like he could have pushed the boundaries a bit further. Some of the runs just fall a bit flat and whilst it's definitely not bad by any stretch of the imagination, and there are some brilliant passages, the peaks don't stay long enough for me

Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
87

A raw and nostalgic album from Lenker both lyrically and compositionally. Some tracks give me the vibe of "if Stevie Nicks wrote a Nick Drake song" and I am all for that. Other tracks give mid-2000s Bon Iver and I am also all for that. And others are completely unique, telling a personal story in a new way, and I'm all for that.

Squid - Town Centre
80

This is the EP that introduced me to Squid and their weird art punk vibes. Schizophrenic vocals, and bipolar composition. This EP's as weird as it is awesome

FINNEAS - Optimist
49

I quite liked this album when it came out but since then, my opinion has soured somewhat. Whilst the production is classic FINNEAS, meaty, but minimalist, the songwriting is just a bit bland. There's nothing really that interesting about the structures or melodies and there's only one or two tracks that I can actually recall after a couple of weeks since my last listen. Yeah, it's just a bit mid

Hurray for the Riff Raff - The Past Is Still Alive
68

TPISTP starts off strong but struggles to maintain that momentum, even when the album is relatively short. The songs on their own are a pretty good time but I was definitely ready for this album to finish when the last track played

Alestorm - Voyage of the Dead Marauder
69

A decent addition to Alestorm's catalogue with a couple of songs that I reckon will stand the test of time. It's definitely not amazing but it's good enough for me

Glass Beams - Mahal
70

Nice Psychedelic with an Indian tinge to it. Spacious and chilled vibes. Definitely one that you can relax into.

Squid - Bright Green Field
84

An amazing and very unique exploration into art punk. Personal favourite has to be 2010. Absolute unit of a track

Dave Brubeck - Time Further Out
83

A fun and very versatile album. Whilst not as critically acclaimed as Time Out, this is still an absolutely top-notch Jazz album

Dave Brubeck - Time Out
88

Amazing West Coast Jazz that still stands the test of time. The composition is astonishing but, above that, the production is absolutely amazing

Blanket - Ceremonia
71

A solid shoegaze/grunge album. Choruses are catchy, guitar riffs and chord progressions are too, and there's definitely a lot of creativity on display. The production can sound a little muddy in some areas, with vocals becoming a little lost in heavier passages, but that doesn't really deter me from having a good time.

NewJeans - Get Up
72

A well-produced, catchy EP. Whilst it's not boundary-breaking, it does what it aims to do well

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
90

Chelsea Wolfe's 2024 release is comfortably one of the best Darkwave albums I have listened to. Dark instrumentation paired with angelic yet serious vocals create a dark but detailed image. The quality of the production on this album is truly commendable.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Laminated Denim
83

My personal favourite Gizz jam album.

Personal Trainer - The Feeling
71

A pretty good EP with a superb first track and a good-not-great second track.

Personal Trainer - Big Love Blanket
80

A very creative and fun album. With hints of Indie, Crankwave and punk, there's plenty to divulge and lots to enjoy.

79

Whilst this album does lack somewhat when it comes the sheer versatility, the quality of progressive metal on display here is undeniable with a number of tracks that were key to the development and evolving of the metal genre in the late 2000s.

"@hypermusic73 I never said it's an issue, it's just very safe for them, and it's the only thing that makes the song not just incredibly generic. Unlike AHIYH, there's nothing else that makes this song stand out to the. AHIYH has some great harsher vocals, a catchy riff, and a cool build up. For me, this song hasn't got any of that."
