I have to applaud the fact that glaive produced something very different with this EP but it really doesn't have much staying power for me. There are a couple of good tracks here but there are also some that go a bit too far and kind of just fall into meme territory
I will be the first to admit that this genre is oversaturated but Allie X has definitely managed to keep it fresh here. With sophi-pop style vocals and modern-retro synths and the odd single soul guitar, Girl With No Face is powerful, performative and, above all else, really good
This album is really where Supertramp started to come into their own
This is a pretty monsterous classic rock album that was very much ahead of its time. With many songs that still have a place in popular culture today, Who's Next serves as perhaps not The Who's most ambitious record but definitely still a must-listen
There are some parts of this album that I really like, but ultimately its the contemporary and dull-sounding A-Side that results in this album getting a lower grade that its contemporaries. It's just a bit bland
A very consistent yet versatile debut album. With ventures into indie, post-punk and electronic, this short but fulfilling album was a joy to listen to.
Nutini's vocal performances are good, the production is very solid and it actually very versatile which I wasn't expecting on first listen. There are a few absolutely superb tracks that stand out amongst the rest of the good but not amazing tracklist.
Pilot's second album is generally fun and catchy with some great mellow songs thrown in for good measure. As always, Alan Parson's mixing is superb and definitely makes some tracks (Dear Artist in particularly) stand out
A very versatile and very enjoyable noise rock/chamber pop experience. The songs vary a lot in genre but they also fit very well together, leading to a diverse and interesting album that feels extremely cohesive. The talent on display in this debut is commendable.
An incredibly fun and interesting venture into retro-inspired funk and psychedelic. It may be influenced by those 70s sounds, but Grande Mahogany pushes the sound into the present with cool production and brilliant musical flare
Once again, Harry Nilsson creates a light-hearted and sometimes comedic pop rock album that's filled with delight and talent.
The album that changed my perspective on noise rock. It's loud, raw and definitely imperfect in ways but it's also incredibly impressive
Black Midi just keep improving with every release and Hellfire is a perfect example of that and a perfect example of organised chaos.
This album is more than just "the theme from Exorcist" as many people from my generation put it. It's a superb work of new age/prog rock work that effortlessly glides from movement to movement with more ease than any album written by someone as young as Oldfield was should. Awesome composition, superb performance and some absolute classics smattered throughout. He never managed to top this...
I thought this slapped. Definitely not as good as some of their other albums but there's still plenty of reasons to give this a listen if you liked some of Styx' other releases.
It does lack slightly in cohesion, in my opinion but the actual songs on here are 100% quality
Amazing songwriting, some of the best to date.
But, there are some that will not be able to stand the over-produced nature of a lot of the tracks that feature on this album.
Yes, the movie isn't good.
But the soundtrack is superb containing some of Biffy Clyro's most underrated tracks and ambitious sequencing that in some ways makes this album feel conceptual. Bringing Adam Noble on to produce this album was a fantastic choice with amazing production, and some really great synth sections.
