DZ Deathrays - Easing Out Of Control

The appeal of punchy, loud rock music is really captured best in live gigs and festivals --- I know I'd have a blast feeling the energy of the mosh, dancing to a band like this. However, the genre tends to get pretty mid reviews as there's not much to sink your teeth into, listening to the album as is. Makes me wanna go out, touch grass and see more live music though for sure!

Websites like AOTY, together with the ease of streaming can really make unknown artists known (sometimes). Statistically, the best album ever is hidden in Spotify with a few thousand plays and I'll never hear it. This new Richard Sallis makes me think about all the great music that won't ever see the wider audience it deserves --- I'll think about that next time I waste time listening to a big artist's latest dogshit album (think Taylor Swift, Tame Impala, Drake)

This album captures that "American Gothic" vibe of the American country I'll never understand and thankfully only ever experience through media. But somehow, I'll still romanticise the concept after watching movies like History of Sound, First Cow & Brokeback Mountain. It makes me want to go camping, catch fish and contemplate God.

I wrote this guy off for the longest time, assuming he's another Morgan Wallen / Luke Combs, so I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Grinning like the dude on the left with the sunnies on --- I feel like I'm back in 2018 hearing ASAP rap again. I got a gut feeling we're gonna hear more good quality trap this year for a change.

Bobby Noss teased this at his Melbourne show in July 2024 and the crowd loved it - keeping it unreleased for a year must take so much restraint god DAMN. Enough playing with us, YOU CAN RELEASE THE ALBUM NOW (please)
Maybe it's recency bias, but this might be my favourite of the new singles.
