as bleak as the coldwave genre gets, the production on the whole run is so alive and engaging. shadow being, sweet soft and lonely, embracer, a cold room; it's a really stacked tracklist. amazing album that just further proves why breakbeat producers are fucking godly.
hard hitting grindy cybernetic bombshell, machine girl 100% took the hardcore lane with full effect and it worked out so well. super fun album
"Soft rains will come and prudent the weather
Of one year and a thousand days to see you again"
this is one of the best singer-songwriter records of the year. even with the language barrier, that didn't stop me from falling for this album. the way the concept of love is woven through the writing, it's beautiful.
first four songs were engaging and catchy but this is pretty surface level dream pop, by the end of the album alot of the songs end up being pretty forgettable. not much more different from the marias' solo stuff
I WANT TO GO BACK HOME WHEN DOES THIS BUS LEAVEEEEEEE
although the first 3 tracks completely put me off which had me doubting if I would enjoy the album despite the expectations I had; however, everything from penny dreadfuls was really quality with the highlight tracks for me being the emotional bomb 'Alvin Row' and the really fucked up masterfully written 'La Rapet'.
this album's standout quality was the songwriting, it's really subtle and takes a bit of ... read more
as unorthodox and psychedelic this album is, it feels like a warm hug
tracks 3 - 5 drag the album down alot, everything else is gorgeous though
comfortably the best breakcore album I've heard, whilst exploring other genres practically every song uses the breakbeat sound as a foundation. this couldn't be possibly without the stellar production behind the album, all the chops, the sample references, the beat progression, the atmosphere.
every song feels like it's own world; 'Starfields' easily being the best song on the album, it's 8 minutes of the most immense chops progressing into more ambient sounds. ... read more
pretty much just one of the best electronic albums I've come across, layers upon layers of intricately produced tracks. especially collider and immunity, some of the best electronic songs I've heard
cocteau twins meets magdalena bay
this album is produced exceptionally well, it nails the ambient but dreamy analogue sound. alot of consistency in the tracks, with some genuinely insane songs like 'pacifico' and 'helix'. fun fun fun listen and kind of a sleeper pick for one of the better albums from the year.
very catchy blend of house and dance with the perfect vocals to back it up. this does drag on a little bit towards the last 7 songs though.
a mix of classical, dnb and breakcore, I mean what the hell that's pure technical brilliance and to pull it off so fucking well. this is such a cerebral experience, you HAVE to try this if you have any bit of interest in the breakcore genre.
my stocks on this band finally paid off, what a debut album.
The whole album is raw, layered with intricately harsh but gorgeous instrumentals and the saxophone. The fucking saxophone.
The songwriting in this is leaps and bounds compared to everything else they've released, an obvious message on the inequalities of the world and also in ourselves.
Genuinely a trancing experience, this was absolutely worth the hype.
dnb executed at such a crazy level, if the last song was the album on its own this would be like a 90+.
