Firstly, yes, as you may have guessed from the swastika in the cover art - this is a nazi band. I don't know whether they truly do follow that ideology or they're just using this as a shock factor but there's that.
Album starts off with a traditional Asian song and those synthesizers, setting the tone for what's to follow. A mystical dreamy journey. The album pulls you in - and really, fucking sucks you in - from the very start. If you didn't like the start then ... read more
Now what do we have here. THE symphonic black metal album that spawned right out of the original wave of the Norwegian black metal scene, leading the scene alongside a few others. And like them, this absolutely slaps. Those guys at that time did something revolutionary that countless new acts to this day are trying to replicate. The album in all its glory absolutely is a classic that has withstood the test of time.
The production is refined and breathtaking, at the core still remaining a ... read more
Some of the better stuff power metal has to offer, granted I haven't heard much of what the genre has to offer, so far this is the best album I've heard from the genre. I mean I've heard like 3 power metal albums so that's not the hardest place to be in.
Now almost all of the power metal I've heard has been too cheesy for it's own sake. It's weird listening to 30 year old white dudes being all geeky and tryhard - crying about dragons and whatnot. Cringe, ... read more
This makes me feel like a 14 year old girl, an innocent happy little maiden, back to the simple lovely times (times I never lived). This is just pure joy, so lush and happy, although some songs felt rather mediocre.
I don't know how anyone can listen to this and not get a raging boner of EPICNESS. Holy shit that was so cool!!
This album is filled with ideas - ideas well executed. Everything sounds... so pretty, and diverse, yet pretty. Weird pop post-rock thing going on there where everything balances perfectly well. Only gripe I have with this album is me unable to connect with it, the instruments, vocals, the sound are all superb but I just can't connect with the album and it's songwriting - which I can see is great, there's many topics touched here which I should've liked but just can't ... read more
Been avoiding this album for a long time, cause I thought the reason of it being highly acclaimed - a "classic" and often times said to be THE black metal album to start with because of all that went down with this band. The history over music. So it was a pleasant surprise to find that this album indeed slaps, even without the lore behind it.
Hypotonic, addictive, repetative riffs and those bombastic drums along with those vocals that sound like my grandpa got possessed by a demon ... read more
It's simple, but so so so so so so fun!! IT'S SO CHARMING! Like some 80s cartoons that has came to life, with wisdom but the innocence of a child. The album cover perfectly depicts what you'll hear, just a kid thrown into this evil cruel world.
The vocals sound like they sang by a literal child, an adult in a child's body to be precise. Like it's the dream of a 50 year old army general the night before he is to launch a campaign that's bound to cause immense ... read more
Was supposed to be an openly insecure angsty diary style album, track one went into that direction, but everything afterwards bowled down to just another mediocre formulaic breakup album. With cliched teenage troupes and recycled pop-punk melodies. At the start she talks about not getting her teenage dream but then the rest of the album all she talks about IS her living her teenage dream. All of which has already been done much more beautifully.
And I really just hate when people speak like ... read more
This album tells a story, and it does a wonderful job telling that story - a story I couldn't give two fucks about.
Oh look, another mediocre electropop album that made it to the top for whatever reason.
This album is like the watered down version of everything it tries to be, so hollow and shallow. The production feels incomplete and overcomplete - ya both, unpolished. The flow just ain't there except for the progression from the first to the second track.
The songwriting is... very simple and teen-y. Diary-core ykow that openly insecure type except that's very surface level in this case so ... read more
Man, aoty has like no filk added. Have to add everything myself.
Which is understandable. This, musically, ain't much. Sounds like your usual folk stuff but I just adore it. Listening to filk makes me happy, and by filk I'm referring to old sci-fi stuff, like Leslie fish. It's just... soothing. You can really visualise whatever's happening. Sends you to a very special place, a place I hold close to my heart. That being said, this ain't that good. First track is ... read more
Personal protocol? Yeah, there ain't anything personal about this. Everything just feels so disconnected and disconnected in a bad way. Vocals are alright, instruments are alright. But just alright, it just bores me. First track was still fine the rest on the other hand came and passed and I forgot about them the instant they came and passed. So much mediocrity that the album straight up annoyed me. It's hyperpop, so much is happening, and it somehow still managed to make me sleepy. ... read more
God forbid a black metal project be fun and not about sacrificing orphans to satan. This is a fun little album. Cathy black metal, and easily digestible which is one of the reasons it's so hated - the album blew up on tiktok, and you know metal fans, they did what metal fans do best. Even worse as this is black metal fans we're talking about.
Ok maybe it's just guilty pleasure on my side, this scratches that medivial itch of mine like never before. And imo the album does ... read more
Now, such internet heavy emo incelcore albums are bound to be a hit or miss depending on the songwriting and just how much relatable it is - just how much you connect with the album.
This project, unfortunately, is mediocre. Tries way too hard which is cringe inducing. Some tracks are good yes, but this has a runtime of 70+ minutes and 29 fucking tracks the majority of which are just straight up bad.
The album plays very into the meta, clearly targeting a particular audience. It speaks of ... read more
Oh boy... here we go.
1.) Absolutely Cuckoo: Lighthearted start. Jingly twee sweetness. It's pretty funny, witty and playful. An innocent guy afraid of investing his emotions, afraid of expecting too much. Would rathor die loveless then get his heart broken. Very self aware. A great start to the album.
2.) I Don't Believe in the Sun: Alright things took a dark turn. The vocals before has that innocent childish nature to it, now it's an experienced man who's see it all ... read more
So the guy started writing music while staying in MIT, some of the songs here were written as far as 6 years back. In the era of heavy blues rock and hard rock, there was a little interest for the type of music Boston played. All the demos were rejected. So he recorded everything in someone's basement. Most of the instruments here are done by him, and he added a singer.
The music itself is pretty hard hitting, sounds good and is easy going. The songwriting is... super cheesy. This is ... read more
Listened to this twice in a row because I really really really wanted to love this, cause I love the shit out of Piper - my favourite Floyd album infact. But this just doesn't do it for me. I'm not invested in this, at all. The words just come and go, the songwriting ain't even a fraction as interesting and whimsical as that on piper. Doesn't interest me one bit. I even stopped everything and focused on this lyrics - tried to analyse them, looked up discussions about their ... read more
Came out just a year after the highly acclaimed "At Folsom Prison". Johnny decided to follow up on a near perfect live album with... doing the same shit just at a different prison. Makes you think that maybe Johnny Cash's record label thought they had found some kind of infinite money glitch by releasing the same kind of album each year but a different prison every time. Lmao.
But boy did it work, the same magic is present. Not as gloomy or dark, and the songs aren't as ... read more
