As of the time I’m writing this, 2 people have rated this 90-100, and I am willing to bet I know who did.
- Tom MacDonald
- Adam Callhoun
TL;DR fucking awful subject material recorded by the worst artists in the modern era, produced by someone who needs to find another hobby thrown onto a GarageBand beat.
Wow. Okay to sum up this festering shit pile
Bad song without the lyrics. Awful flows, garage band beat, etc.
“I have nothing against a liberal, but your leaders are communists and criminals, they’re starting world war 3 …”
Which maybe 6 bars later is followed by “young men used to fight wars now ... read more
far too over-hated personally. I think her attitude makes sense for the stage of her career, unless I’m missing something.
Out of the 3 songs I listened to, I think both CUCKOO and YOU & I had potential to be really good songs. Cuckoo was very catchy until the run on the word cuckoo during the chorus; completely ruined it for me. as for YOU & I, I actually do enjoy the song to an extent, but I think i would like it far more if the mixing was a bit better, the instrumental washes khalid's vocal performance during the duet.
Pre Listen - Reggae | 49
Mid song - Yucky (If this is what to expect from Utopia I don't know what to say| 49 < 41
After Listen - This song is my bad lil' mommy | 41 > 29
This was really good, I liked the attitude taken through the flows, and of course JID pops on this song
edit 89 > 92 I love this song. it brings a very special vibe to me, so groovy!
Vocalized all my fears of my parents in the future in 3 minutes. Its instrumental sucks, and the singing is flat at times, but the lyrics made me sad so its good in my books. far from a playlist song, definitely not one I'd come back to, but good.
GORGEOUS MUSIC AAAAAAH
edit: #2 album, not #3
Because of how big this album got, everything has been said about it, and so i have no problem making this review more casual. This album is gorgeous artistry from Quadeca, and it was my #2 album of 2022.
The first half of the album to me is bliss, then house settling and knots both seem very agitated, then blissful regret and confusion?

This album makes me feel sad, inspired, overwhelmed by emotion, and more. Every time I look ... read more
This and Figure It Out are both fairly strong tracks, offering sounds from different parts of logics musical journey, and so I'm quite excited for this next album! I really REALLY like the hook on this song, it's already stuck in my head.
I feel like i'm out in left field with this opinion, but I actually quite enjoy this song when im not focusing too hard on it.
Edit 85 > 73 the vocal chops made me wanna kill myself
Edit 73 > 61 I love the vocal performance from Aidan on this song, just tickles my brain in awesome town, but the everything involving the Chainsmokers kind of sucks
Edit 61 > 43 If anybody except for the chainsmokers used these vocals I think this song would be lowkey fire
Pre-Release Thoughts: I really hope this isn't the worst album of the year. I used to love AJR and so realizing that they suck kinda sucked in itself.
Singles: The Dumb Song isn't actually dogshit, so I'm kind of hoping the rest of the album holds the same values. No shitty yodeling, horrible audio chops, etc. 69/100
Maybe Man is a really weird kind of bad. The vocals are trying very hard to be something that they don't have the capacity to be. If you're gonna yell the lyrics like that, you ... read more
After looking into it a bit more, I'm glad to see Technodad was involved in production, because without that + the fundraiser, this is just a really bad song in poor taste.
Frequency isn't a song. It's a masterpiece, encapsulating the album in the context of JID's studio
album run, preparing you for what you're about to experience. The Never Story was very close to home, this album was made by a JID that I interpret as more comfortable in his proverbial skin within the rap game, and just as an artist in general.
Slick Talk includes crazy flows, definitely one of the more straightforward songs on the album, definitely sounds like a JID song, but zero complaints. ... read more

My Score: 87
Considering this is JID's "worst album," it's interesting to look at because this entire track list is extremely strong. I have 7/12 of these tracks on my playlist, and the other 5 INCLUDING the introduction, I wouldn't skip if it came on.
This album takes everything that he is good at and puts it on a pedestal, and looking back this was him creating his own style, which you don't see every day.

I get an "I'm high" vibe from this album, and I absolutely love it.
The opening to the track No L's is 100% my highlight from this. The vocalization followed by the beat drop just make me feel things. Personally, there isn't a single skip on this album.
