This is a white man from New York speaking about how he's grown in the city and the duality of both loving it and despising what has happened on it as a result of gentrification and digitization that has taken place in the city. It's unapologetically New Yorker and it shines light on personal struggles and growth in a very soothing way. The lyricism reminds me of J Cole at times. One of the best produced albums of all time and i really enjoy how black thought combined new and older east coast artists on this one. Also the cover seduces me.

Joey makes this mixtape really special by having the pure hunger of a very creative 17 year old from Brooklyn explore the sound that surrounded him since his birth. This is what happens when you let someone be creative and take control of their sound. It sounds modern even after coming out 14 years ago and being inspired by pioneers of east coast hip hop. One of the best mixtapes of all time. RIP Steez.
