What would happen if you combined one of the best rappers out there with one of the best producers of all time? You get Freddie Gibbs And Madlib's Piñata. Songs like Deeper and Broken have amazing storytelling and emphasize the lyrical ability of the bald bitch. Besides the usual lyrics of selling drugs, Gibbs goes out of his way to speak about his personal dilemmas and tells stories about his life. There isn't a single less than great song in this album, they all elevate the ... read more
I'm not usually a fan of old school hip hop with some exceptions, but this is definitely one of those exceptions. This guy is from Brooklyn and he lets you know that in damn near every song. My favorite aspect of this album is that unlike some of his contemporaries, Mos Def doesn't stick to a single sound through the album. The album contains heavy political critique, themes of race unity, the black experience, and a strong pro black message which i really empathize with. Songs like ... read more
This is a white man from New York speaking about how he's grown in the city and the duality of both loving it and despising what has happened on it as a result of gentrification and digitization that has taken place in the city. It's unapologetically New Yorker and it shines light on personal struggles and growth in a very soothing way. The lyricism reminds me of J Cole at times. Yall are tripping if you say Joey fell off cuz of this one. Underwater is top ten in his catalog
One of the best produced albums of all time and i really enjoy how black thought combined new and older east coast artists on this one. Also the cover seduces me.
The production of sistanem has fed me more than my mother and shout-out money incredibly underrated track
Joey makes this mixtape really special by having the pure hunger of a very creative 17 year old from Brooklyn explore the sound that surrounded him since his birth. This is what happens when you let someone be creative and take control of their sound. It sounds modern even after coming out 14 years ago and being inspired by pioneers of east coast hip hop. One of the best mixtapes of all time. RIP Steez.
Raw sound immaculate vibes good features fun flows Zel cultivates an extremely chaotic environment with this album and i love it
Trap masterpiece. It's an amazing album overall and that 7 song run from the intro to nightcrawler is fantastic.
Back when my taste in music was still developing, A$AP Rocky was always a name that showed up in my radar and that I was constantly seeing in features from artists I really liked. Live Love A$AP was the first project that I sat through and, even if it took a while to actually get there, it genuinely changed my taste permanently and helped me get into a lot of music i love nowadays. From the intro Palace Rocky takes the stage by showing his flow over an angelical beat. He constantly murders the ... read more
HYAENA made me think it was gonna be so much better but it still is a good project that ends up overhated by some people (whatsthebuzz)
