too short to leave a proper impact, but was really sweet throughout
definitely needs some more studio time to refine some aspects (I think the vocals fluctuate in quality quite a bit primarily) but the expressiveness shows a lot of potential.
this album is going to be epic and all about girls but Lewis Evans my sweet summer child I will miss your voice sigh
Gets better with every listen. The vocal performance is unbelievably dominant and incredibly emotional, something which I think later BC,NR material exchanges for greater instrumental expression. Not to say the instruments aren’t beautiful and expressive on this album (see Mark’s Theme and Chaos Space Marine), but that they tend to act much more like a unit, often following identical melodical lines as opposed to trailing off into more contrasting patterns that bring the background ... read more
my pick for industry plant of the year in November is making me feel quite proud of myself. The music is pretty average but I did call it!
The glitchy and industrial sounds don't produce much of an atmosphere, leaving most musical ideas flat. The vocals are surprisingly average for a things album, often times sounding derivative of a sub-par Bjork imitation. The few ideas to latch onto either end up underwhelming or unresolved.
absolutely unbelievable. The absence of music in the show just emphasises how much life the music that is present breathes into the show.
I've made an active effort to never listen to Magician and wait for a proper recording of it and oh my god... it is one of the most gorgeous, heart-wrenching and delicate songs I have ever listened to.
It's incomplete. There's clearly moments where the instruments are let out and the songwriting is earnest (see The Table and especially Carrera, wonderful songwriting) but some of these songs are just absolute duds. The acoustics are poor, the choral singing and vocal chops are trying to be something far more impressive than they are. Like, you have James Blake on the album, who has done vocal chops and choral singing for himself and others in such a beautiful way but you can't ... read more
absolutely mind-boggling production. I’ve never seen anyone blend glitch synths and string sections so incredibly. The vocal performance is also stellar.
I think the song is a bit slow off the marks but once initial instrumental switch happens the fireworks just go off. Absolutely gorgeous glowing keys and synthesisers. Beautiful start the Geordie’s solo career- excited for what’s next!
trades the atmosphere of Beatopia for the charm found in this album. The instrumentation manages to be quite interesting, but some sections feel too short (i.e brass section of ‘coming home’) Though I don’t think any of the songs hit the heights beatopia did. The change in directions from a sort of alt-rock sound to this more folk-pop oriented style (in my opinion) seems like a bit of a downgrade, but the record doesn’t suffer the same fate that many other pop records do ... read more
she starts a Japanese Breakfast Paprika-style fanfare mid song as if it’s building up to a really awesome chorus repeat then chooses to repeat the first verse with a few changed lyrics DONT PISS ME OFF!!!
this is what happens when you let teezo touchdown be funky and charismatic the output is so much better (I know it’s essentially a cover, more a point on teezo than the talking heads cover)
