It's a good, fun album with a nice variety of songs it's just that Gorillaz lost the swagger and edge that they had on previous albums.
Each song is so uniquely different and yet they're all connected by the same gothic emotion
Guitars thick like pitch, drums pummeling like a machine gun, and vocals screech like a banshee over all of it
The only reason this song got a decent rating and became so popular is because it became trendy to make memes about how Pharrell cooked in the studio for a kids song. The entire song from the vocals to the instrumentals are simple in a boring way, in fact the instrumentals for the first part of the song just copy the vocal melody that appears in the second part of the song that became trendy in all those uninspired memes. And speaking of that second part, the only reason it sounds impressive is ... read more
I don't understand the hype around freezing moon. The riffs are boring and un-atmospheric and the drums feel off tempo. The intro and solo are good but that doesn't make the rest of the song any better. Every other song in this album is better than freezing moon imo.
While I don't think it's impossible for trap and black metal to be mixed together in a way that creates an interesting and enjoyable product (since weirder music combinations have succeeded before), Griiim doesn't accomplish this. While the use of dissonant synths does give the album an unsettling and sickening atmosphere, it gets old really fast and the trap beats just make everything sound silly. The guitar riffs are also really boring and all sound the same. I still can't ... read more
An atmospheric and melodic albums which paints a picture of a separate world that is at times open and calm and at other times chaotic and powerful.
A heavy AF album with thick, sludgy, groove laden riffs that has a southern Pantera edge to it thanks to the amazing vocalist that demonstrates. Some standout songs off the album are the title track which is one of the more unique songs because of how soulful and bluesy it is - and planets collide and scattered pieces lay because of how they make you feel like you're ascending to heaven. Additionally, I really like the added touch of how the last song of the album transitions into the ... read more
A super fun album with a wide range of unique tracks. I especially love the song "Time" for it's emotional depth and as a statement on how the deli creeps were very much capable of making much more traditionally serious and deep music but instead decided to fuck around for most of the album.
Rife with hard energy - the drums, guitars, and vocals compliment each other in unison to create an album that pummels you with groove. Also the Siouxsie and the Banshees cover was unexpected but really good and fits really well with the hardcore style of the album.
Every song is so unique and perfect, not only do the synths add both depth and catchy melodies but the guitar riffs are both melodic as heavy as hell, even the vocalist is really good at doing both clean and harsh vocals that fit into the music really well. My favorite song is The downfall but the solo at the end of the title track paired with the synth chords is also really majestic.
Does a great job at building a really unique atmosphere that is even really eerie at times without being stereotypically scary.
