WHOA. I expected this one to be good based on the live version, but man this blew away any expectations I had. I doubt that the rest of the album will be on this level consistently but this gives me more hope that we’ll have a genuinely solid, somewhat consistent Muse album for the first time in a long time.
These two singles seem to me like them reusing old ideas, in particular ones from Will of the People but just kind of doing them better. I hear a bit of Guiding Light and Follow Me in this one too. I wish it was longer, because that ending was actually pretty good, and I liked where it was going but then it just ended. Regardless of my complaints though it’s looking to me like we might have one of the best Muse albums in a long time coming.
A more consistent and more enjoyable project overall than Rat Saw God in my opinion. I’m getting Pavement vibes with this one, which is cool. Reminds me of a lot of my favorite songs from Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.
