I honestly adore 'Taste', far and away the standout song from this project and creates such a great impression... It's just a shame it's track 1. I was so drawn in and hoped the album would have more tracks like it and I think the closest bet was maybe 'Juno'? But it just doesn't have the same punch. I saw someone call this album uninspired and I can't help but agree; lacks clear direction and just doesn't give me a great idea on who Carpenter really ... read more
I love Megan (the artist), and I definitely prefer this to Traumazine. Really my biggest gripe with this album is the track 'Spin', featuring an artist I love Victoria Monet, who is a sensational singer; who on this track... sounds like a robot:/ Don't really understand why her vocals have been processed in that way because she certainly does not need it.
Vocals aren't my taste. Repetitive but I think that's just a genre thing.
Incredibly front-loaded, however the last 2 tracks are some of Twice's best ballads.
Loona's magnum opus, easily. So consistent, even with the shift from [X X] to [+ +] during the album's second half.
Strong start, but quickly derails once Isa's solo ends. Some tracks are incredibly generic, with STAYC at one point in an almost ritualistic practice for Kpop dedicating a pop-punk track to their fans. I wish the album stayed in the lane of the first 10 ish tracks (give or take), as theres very little to write home about after that point; aside from maybe 'Trouble Maker' which I'd say is a good closer, and feels reminiscent of their previous title track 'Bubble' in ... read more
'I don't care if you got a dick, I don't care if you got a WAP'
2020 was such an interesting year for Twice; and in my opinion, one of their worst years sonically. Not to say any of their releases of that year were bad, as in my opinion both of the Japanese singles they released that year are amongst their best, however their Korean releases left much to be desired. It feels as though in Twice's mission to be viewed as a mature girl group just over a year after shedding their cute image with 'Fancy You', they lost their fun factor, as made ... read more
It's quite a transitional record, with songs reminiscent of Charli's older sound and some of her newer. I wish Sophie had produced more on here, as I'd say her efforts on this album made for the best tracks; as well as a majority of the tracks she did not produce being a little bit boring. 'Babygirl' and 'ILY2' are really cute, and I love Raye's vocals on 'Dreamer' as well as its transcendent instrumental. Overall it's a good mixtape, not ... read more
So insanely unique sonically, so consistent yet each track is so completely unique. 'Track 10' is up and away one of Charli's best songs and it's such a great closing track. I also just adore the features on this album, of which there are many. Carly's vocals on a hyperpop beat create such a perfect contrast on 'Backseat', while Carolines screaming high notes acting as part of 'Tears' instrumental makes the song feel even more devastating. Oh Charli ... read more
What exactly was this albums supposed to be? There are some great experimental tracks ala 'Pop 2' with 'Gone' or 'Click', but then theres these tracks like 'Blame it on your love' (the inferior version) which just sound like radio bait. I remember on my first listen I got so into the first couple tracks then I heard Lizzo rapping against a tropical house beat and just wondered what are we doing here? It's a great album but I don't think ... read more
I listened to this album somewhat reluctantly in an effort to catch up to the 2024 releases I've seen so heavily lauded, not expecting to like that much after hearing snippets from the songs 'Lunch' and 'Birds of a feather'. But holy shit, this album is phenomenal, and I'm so glad I decided to listen to it. Maybe Finneas isn't so bad!
God I love 'Flip That', they could never make me hate you girl. Very good for a summer special album, although 'Pose' really messes the flow created by the first few tracks and I don't really understand why it couldn't have been track 6 considering the fact that it's only on the EP because of Loona's run on Queendom. All that aside, this was a sweet way for Loona to (basically) disband, and while that was not the intention behind such an album it worked ... read more
Probably Loona's weakest EP. While there are some great tracks, my favourite being 'Be Honest' (which IMO could have been the title track), after track 4 there's 3, kinda boring, ballads in a row. 'U R' is probably the best of this trinity, however even before Loona's boycott I never found myself revisiting this track. 'Paint The Town' is good, but I'd argue its the worst Loona title track.
