This is easily one of David Bowie's best albums. It's fun and groovy, yet also very dark and heart breaking. It really is an experience. It starts off with possibly my favourite Bowie song, introducing a lot of the main concepts and vibes of the album. The entire track list is so consistently great. There's really no filler here, just 6 amazing tracks. Bowie has some of his most emotional singing on the closing track, ending the album perfectly. An essential listen.
Young Americans sounds unlike any other Bowie album. Another album that showcases how Bowie was not afraid to take risks even at the height of his career. But considering what came out the few years before and after this one, it really doesn't stand out as much. I think the final result was a really enjoyable album, although some tracks aren't particularly memorable.
Fav Tracks: Fame, Win, Young Americans
Really underrated. I love the concept and the flow of the album. It gets points because 1984 is one of my favourite books. And also because this feels so cinematic. So different and yet so distinctly Bowie. But it does have a few weak spots and I feel like it needs an extra 10 or 20 minutes to really expand on the ideas and sound.
Fav Tracks: Rebel Rebel, We Are the Dead, Big Brother
Out of Bowie's popular albums this was one that never stuck with me. Although I probably only listened to it once or twice. But as i'm going through Bowie's discography, I gave this one another chance and LOVED it. Something just clicked. Every song is so fun and different. There's great variety here. I don't think there's any skips. I definitely understand the hype now.
