First 75% I loved. Last couple tracks I didn’t. Still pretty exceptional for a noise rock album, however not quite Sonic Youth level
Brilliant album. I must admit I was fooled by the intro and didn’t realize how depressing this would be, having zero knowledge of BCNR going in. I thought this would be a good gym listen, given the funky, progressive uptempo in the first several minutes, giving me a slight adrenaline boost that I assumed would carry on. After hearing the Bread Song, it became apparent that this was not going to be a fun experience at all. Once the album shifted away from the Black Midi style ... read more
Solid album, but not nearly as good as Deathconsciousness. It sounded a lot more like an industrial Joy Division album than anything at times, somewhat straying away from what made them so unique. Still very enjoyable nonetheless
Radiohead’s gloomiest and most depressing album, but it also never fails to keep you on your toes in classic Radiohead fashion. This album most certainly set up The Smiles’s eventual sound, and while I wish we got more Radiohead projects building off of this, I wouldn’t mind at all if this ends up being their swan song.
The Smile’s debut brings the same harrowing and dystopian vibe as Radiohead’s major records, however, this does feel like the start of a new chapter that is not quite finished yet. Every song seems like it has a little more to give.
Frank’s commercial debut is raw and passionate, and while he clearly was still finding himself as an artist, the original tracks are still some of his best and the mixtape showed incredible promise despite the growing pains
I like the raw songwriting on Veteran better, but this was an improvement on every other level. Peggy really asserts himself into a league of his own on this record.
Some amazing tracks on here. DNA, DUCKWORTH and LOVE are the highlights for me. HUMBLE was obviously a mega smash hit in 2017, I genuinely couldn’t escape that song lmao. Not as polished as Kendrick’s other works but a great record nonetheless
One of the best trap albums of all time, the quintessential record that has served as a basis for the genre ever since. Almost every track on here is peak
Kanye’s legendary debut is still his best work. He had everything to prove and proved everything. So much passion on this album
Probably the most impressive album Swans have ever put out. Of their 2 hour + long epics, I feel like this one was the most extreme and avant-garde, definitely the least inviting, but the most substantial - absolutely no filler anywhere. I have it just below TBK and comfortably over SFTB, The Seer, and Children of God among my fav Swans albums
Last great solo Kanye album. Never once have I started this album and didn’t finish going back to 2016
Great album but way too short. I wish we got more Kids See Ghosts before Ye and Cudi drifted apart 💔
Don’t get me wrong, the songs here are fantastic, but I feel like I need to be sympathetic to Kanye to really appreciate this album, something I can no longer do. This was at least an 85 when I first heard it in 2018, but it simply hasn’t aged well
