It's really not up for debate at this point, Stephen Bruner is easily one of the most talented and just one of the coolest musicians in the music industry today. With an already pretty impressive discography and many collabs to boot, I had zero reason to believe that Distracted wasn't going to be anything short of upmost quality. Stephen's previous bodies of work, 2020's It Is What It Is and 2011's Gold Age, were both creatively weird and far excelling any albums around ... read more
It comes as no surprise, but Ye might just be one of the most controversial figures in not just Hip Hop culture, but throughout the history of music as an art form. The regular public crash-outs, the terrible communication in regard to inconsistent album delays, and the more recent racist/ anti-semitic remarks have all proven to be one of the most notable cases of career suicide. However with his recent apologetic Wall Street article, it seems like Ye may have finally turned a new leaf. ... read more
After nearly a five year hiatus Baby Keem is back with his highly anticipated 2nd studio release, Ca$ino. As far as promotion goes, Keem did something a tad different this time around. Instead of dropping snippets here and there for this project, he put out a short documentary series showcasing the several themes that would inevitably show up on the new album. Subject matters like growing up in an impoverished environment full of sorrow whilst paying homage to a love-centered upbringing suffice ... read more
I was beyond unfamiliar with Madison Beer's music prior to listening to locket. Because of this, my expectations were practically nonexistent. I suppose any central issue I had was hoping that Madison didn't play into the stereotypical girly Pop lyrical tropes that tend to be super trendy by modern standards. Based off the vocal performances on this record, I can attest that the influences are pretty clear. Madison's vocals are pretty reflective of artists like Ariana Grande, ... read more
It has roughly been a decade since we've gotten a solo studio release from Bruno Mars. The last we heard solely from him was through his 2016 24K Magic record, an album I personally didn't see much appeal in. Overall, I think Bruno has provided listeners with passable music alongside some genuinely good songs throughout his decade long run in the mainstream music field. However, once Bruno teamed up with Anderson. Paak to deliver An Evening With Silk Sonic, I slowly became more of an ... read more
From the semi-cancelled YouTuber Filthy Frank/ Pink Guy, Joji returns with his new studio release after a number of years. Keeping it a buck, I have never been much of a Joji fan prior to his 2020 Nectar album. That particular project was chalked full of Joji's best work, vocally and instrumentally. It was such a welcomed surprise back then, that I considered Nectar to be one of the best of the 2020 year. Well with no prior listen to any of the five lead off singles for this record, I went ... read more
After an apparent 20 years in the making, J. Cole is here with his supposed final album. Personally, I've considered Cole to be one of the best lyricists throughout his decade long run in the game. From going double platinum with zero features with his 2014 Forest Hills record to being considered apart of the infamous "big 3" for 2010s Hip Hop, Cole has proven to many why he belongs here. After man teases and set backs, here is The Fall-Off.
It shouldn't surprise me but it ... read more
Next to Frank Ocean's musical absence, DON'T BE DUMB has be one of the most highly anticipated releases of modern day popular music. Rocky himself made light of this album never seeing the light of day through gratuitous fashion announcements. Regardless of how radio silent he's been, I was just as excited as everyone else that that DON'T BE DUMB is finally here.
Things start off pretty cinematic with the first couple of tracks. Can't lie, Rocky sounds like he's ... read more
Out of her decade plus run in the R&B/Latin scenes, Sincerely: P.S. is actually my first time diving into a Kali Uchis project. I went into this listen with optimistic ears based off her many collaborations with Daniel Caesar, Free Nationals, Tyler, the Creator and the promising snippets off this record itself. Fortunately, after listening through several times, I can safely assure you that Kali delivered.
Sincerely: P.S. could not have a stronger start. Both 'Heaven Is a ... read more
By this point, I truly doubt 21 Savage is creatively capable of making any other kind of album that wouldn't sound like this shit. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS? really is just like any other 21 trap centered record. Same ol' okish instrumentals, same ol' flows, and gratuitous lyrics that we've been hearing over and over for the past ten years, easy. I suppose this album has a couple catchy instrumentals, the first two 'WHERE YOU FROM' and 'HA' come to ... read more
One of the best emcees to rep Detroit, Danny Brown is here with his 6th studio album, Stardust. Whether it's been from his collaborative or solo efforts, I've thoroughly enjoyed Danny's output in the 2020s decade thus far. Because of his recent collabs with underscores, I figured he was likely heading in more of a Danceish/ Electronic direction.
First off, referring this album's genre as Dance would be a massive understatement. Stardust is a hybrid of all kinds of sounds ... read more
Regardless of TJOnline's departure from the original grouptherapy. band, I have been continually eager to see how Jadagrace and SWIM follow up their previous body of work: i was mature for my age, but i was still a child. Far as I can tell, this album seems to serve more as a slight departure from PO2's last record. Where their last effort was more musically experimental, this LP is more in your face and bragadocious. The influences for AMERIKA'S NEXT TOP PARTY! are fairly ... read more
By 2025 standards, Man's Best Friend has more or less been considered little more than mere leftovers off of Sabrina's 2024 album, Short n' Sweet. After listening through, I can understand why listeners may feel this way. Sure while the lead off single, 'Manchild', has an undeniably catchy chorus, Man's Best Friend is pretty much Sabrina Carpenter playing things by the numbers so to speak. Additionally, if the album cover didn't illustrate what the central ... read more
What was originally planned for their previous album, Clancy, Breach is the finalized conclusion to Twenty One Pilots' "Trench/Clancy" era; a saga mind you that has taken a full ten years to complete. Outside of a couple notable songs off their previous album, Clancy left me wanting something more polished and overall more complete from Tyler and Josh. In general, I was simply hoping this very intricate and complicated series had a strong finish here.
In further regard to the ... read more
Prior to checking this record out, it had been made clear that this was one of Taylor Swift's most profane albums to date. Not to mention the initial opinions swayed one of two ways, either you're a swifty and think that The Life of a Showgirl is another modern day classic, or this was yet again another mid Pop experience. Personally, my expectations weren't that high considering Taylor has not dropped a decent album since evermore back in 2020. I will say that it was great ... read more
Cannot speak for others but for myself personally, I was put on to Yebba through Drake's Certified Lover Boy album. The song I'm referencing is 'Yebba's Heartbreak' and it's easily the best song on CLB which is sad because Drake doesn't even make an appearance on the fucking track lol. With that aside, Abbey Smith has managed to captivate tens of millions of fans around the world with her soothing and angelic vocal presence within Psych Pop/R&B music. ... read more
First time I ever heard of Louis Prima was on that Elf Christmas movie. I remember the scene where Will Ferrell is walking through NYC and 'Pennies From Heaven' was playing. From the moment I heard that song, I knew I was an instant fan. I also knew that one day I would finally check out an album of his and I'm sure as shit glad I did because The Wildest! is about as jazzy as Jazz music gets with 41 minutes to enjoy.
This record is full of personality whether it's the ... read more
Serving as a slight departure from his more hillbilly Country roots, My World has Eddy Arnold in more of a heartfelt Jazz lane. On paper, you could assume this would be an odd genre switch for an artist of Eddy's specific "caliber". Well turns out this stylistic cross over worked in My World's favor.
Sure most of the 12 songs on this record all share relatively similar slow, crooner tempos. And sure, Eddy isn't very ambitious with his vocal phrasing throughout the ... read more
I don't see how any Hip Hop fan could ever have anything against two of the most entertaining voices in the genre none other than Joey Valence & Brae. Their last effort, NO HANDS was undeniably one of the best Hip Hop releases of 2024 and not one year later we receive another crop of tracks to enjoy with HYPERYOUTH. Given how quality 'WASSUP' was as the lead off single, I figured we were all due for another fun, comical adventure from Hip Hop's newest dynamic ... read more
This may come as no surprise to music fans, but I think Dijon is quite possibly one of modern R&B's most creative and underrated artists. While I don't return to it often, his album Absolutely is one of the better R&B-centered records to drop in 2021. It was uniquely odd, sometimes emotional, and an overall intriguing listening experience against the more generic Chris Brown clones you hear from in the modern day landscape.
This new album, Baby, more or less doubles down on ... read more
