Firstly, I’m never sure how to feel about posthumous albums. It depends on so many factors. Of course it’s great that fans of the artist get more content, but in my mind Im always worried it is the record label spinning together some B-side material to use the artists name for a cash grab. Regardless, Mac died 7 years ago, and we should be happy to hear more of his work.
I was never expecting this album to contain a wealth of high-quality Mac Miller performances, under the ... read more
MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD.
(this doesn't feel like a complete Kendrick album? it feels ever so slightly lacking in some way. but it is still brilliant. if you put it up next to his other albums it feels almost like untitled does, a sort of collection of unused tracks/ideas)
This is a very personal, and vulnerable record from Ghetts. A lot of this record, features included, are talking about issues they really care about and it's executed so that it feels open, like a safe space for people to share their problems. If you look too deep into this you could probably find it preachy, but taking it on face value, there is a really consistent level of quality to this project. Some tracks are thought-provoking and cultural impactful without sacrificing their ability ... read more
To me this felt like Natty is back. Man Like I was such a wholesome and deep album, and nothing in the 16 years since that has really interested me too much, until now. This felt like a step back in the direction of what made me love his music in the first place. It's still his reggaeton style but slightly more bedroom-y than more of his recent work. The track Fiyahman felt original and Mountains has that other-worldly vibe to it that I think the whole "Divine Trinity" vibe is ... read more
I don't think does enough for to discern itself from what it's competition would be. Unfortunately I find it a little bit forgettable. The outro to this album (last two tracks) are the best part for me, and they are really good. But there was too much of this album that just didn't stand out very much to me.
I appreciate the concepts, and I think Tyler (in his modern age) would struggle to make something that's not very good. But this just didn't feel ready to me. Some songs are grandiose and booming and immersive, and others feel like they have a concept behind them but are lacking the firepower to get you across the line.
I put off listening to this album for quite a while, life was getting on top of me. And once I listened I can say I'm annoyed I put it off for so long! It's a really really interesting project and I don't think it's like much I've heard before. I believe I'm right to say that "Magdalena Bay" is actually the duo name of a brother and sister act. When two people so close to each other work together and really click then you'll get something like this. ... read more
I was so close to really liking this. Without being 'that guy' I was pretty early onto Lola Young and I was excited to tell my friends about the singles she was releasing as they came out. I was anticipating an album....then more singles came, and more singles. By the time the album came out I'm sure I had heard at least half of the songs already. That doesn't take away from the individual tracks, but it does take away from the album experience at least for me. I'm ... read more
Personally, this just doesn't really stand out to me in the vast genre of indie pop/ beach pop. I think if I would want to listen to this I would just listen to Circa Waves or the Kooks
I can't say I have ever heard of this band before. I'm not even sure how I found this band. And I'm not entirely sure what language they speak when they use their native tongue. But damn do I like this.
It feels so refined, as if every bar has been considered deeply on it's own and how it builds from the previous bar to the next. This is an oceanic jazz experience that I am completely here for. I was completely captivated when I first heard it because I had no idea where ... read more
This is a quirky, interesting, refreshing sort of release that feels quite unique. Having 'Gary' as a single felt like a fair precursor to what this album was going to be. I'm excited by the prospect of this band as they strike me as a collective that can happily go in their own direction, and I think here they have made something that they wanted to make without really taking too much of an attempt to appeal to a larger crowd.
A fairly solid release from Suki Waterhouse, and this is an album I'm taking with individual highlights rather than a whole piece as some of the tracks are really nice, but it does lack some consistency. With some points in this album really feeling as if they're just 'album tracks'.
A really good introduction to this artist for me, namesbliss has some really impressive storytelling abilities and is able to paint really immersive pictures for instance on the track I told him, which feels like it lasts for almost an hour. The production for the most part is fairly pulled back for a grime/english rap album which sets it apart from a lot of other albums coming out too.
Hit or miss tracks to be honest. Aaron has such a sweet voice that feels like the rolling waves you can see on the album cover. But I feel at times the production doesn't do this much justice and isn't as complimentary to Aaron's style as his previous works. But then out of nowhere you have a track like Time Will Tell that makes me question everything I think about the record.
I don't even care how much I've seen people online mocking this album, it's good fun! I'm not really someone that's into musicals, or Glee, and that's who this album feels like it was made for, but I'm still able to appreciate the happy-go-lucky vibe this brings and it sounds like it's made by everyone with a smile on their face. That being said sometimes it does do a bit too much and feels like the drama student going for their big moment.
I love Anderson Paak, and Knxwledge brings some nice soulful production to this. But something about it feels like it's just lacking a little bit? Obviously most of the tracks are about 2 minutes long which feels like they're not able to flesh out the concepts of each track as much as they could. But what is there is really good. Shave 10 songs off this album and double the lengths of those songs, add in some hooks, and there could be a really nice project here.
There are highlights, definitely. But they aren't enough to make up for the sort of middle-range, half-baked, unpolished album this is, which is upsetting because it could be a lot more. Kehlani obviously is a very talented vocalist and the r&b vibes this album tries to take show you where it could have potentially ended up, but it's as if it was crafted by someone who isn't even entirely sure they know what r&b stands for.
A strong release from those Irish boys. If there was a bit more consistency to this then it would have a much higher score honestly, some of these tracks are really brilliant: Starbuster, Bug, Favourite. And these are singles I listen to outside of this album, but looking back through the tracklist I can't even hear some of these songs back, and when I do they almost sound like filler in comparison. At points this feels like noisy just for the sake of being noisy. And considering how much ... read more
I LOVE how much personality Sabrina Carpenter brings to these tracks. There's so many of these songs that are so fun and if you allow yourself to you can really get absorbed into the poppy beats and flirtatious lyrics and just let this be the simplistic fun experience that it can be. On first listen Juno had me double taking at the lyrics, and the summer bangers Espresso and Please,Please,Please integrate surprisingly well with the rest of the tracks. I've said it for a while now that ... read more
