A very anxious album, took me a minute to get into the style but I do like it. These big, swooping emotional brush strokes paint this canvas of blue, melancholy, anxiety, but also hope. Subterranean Homesick Alien is a fascinating concept and I really do enjoy it. Exit Music (For a Film) of course is excellent, this is where Radiohead's style really clicked for me I think. A bit disappointing, feels like a handful of misfires from alchemist but mainly from Boldy. Love the instrumental on carruth, piano and vocal sample is just excellent. Overall it feels a little sleepy. I feel like the slow roll beat was wasted, I really wanted Boldy to come in a little higher energy there, it sounded really malevolent. Interesting record but kinda solidifies my belief that noise and ambient isn't really my lane. I feel some similarities between my feelings on this and my feelings on Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Not that this is a drone record but I think I feel similarly towards that genre and this which I could maybe describe better as avant folk? There are certainly aspects of this record that are solid. Yeah thats one of the best albums I've ever heard, he really did make that shit. That goes to my 8th all time thats really something special. I like this a lot more than I liked Late Registration and about as much as I liked TCD. Obviously the sound is much more electronic but I really do get a lot more of TCD on this than I did on Late Registration.
